Early Sheffield Mark

Post by joanstreasures »

Can anyone tell me if this is an early Sheffield mark or possibly Provincial....the Crown for Sheffield and the Crowned Leopard's Head for London is throwing me off....there is no other Hallmarks, the Vase stands about 14 inches tall. Also a round about Date would be most helpful. Thanks. Joanie :)

Hi Joanie,

To me the marks are yelling Hanau (style) pseudo marks, check out J.D. Schleissner und söhne, exact crown mark:

Would definitely support Oel's assessment. After just reviewing that thread from July 2014 all three makes were also on the large commemorative plaque. See below but let's see what others think.

Hello, yes, I agree, most likely Hanau and likely Schleissner- though Thile wrote that some marks were used by different Hanau companies, possibly because the dies changed hands. Regards, Bahner
