What is this item and hallmark (A in diamond)?

Item must be marked "Sterling" or "925"

What is this item and hallmark (A in diamond)?

Can anyone help identifying what this item is?
It's approximately 4 1/2" long and just over 5 grams.

Also, can anyone identify the hallmark? It looks like the letter A inside of a diamond.

Thanks for all the info!

I would have never been able to conclude it was a glove darner on my own.
