Tiffany & Co. Cigar Lamp - Authentic??
Hi Everyone, I'm hoping someone can help.
I have a cigar spirit lamp that is marked Tiffany & Co. STERLING AND OTHER METALS. The "AND OTHER METALS" mark looks questionable. If you're able to zoom into the photo. To the naked eye the marks don't look so terrible, however when you zoom in, it's a hot mess. Also there is no pattern or lot number.

I found a similar item that sold at auction, however the chain attaches onto the body, and on my item it attaches on the neck. here is the listing:

Any thoughts or insight would be greatly appreciated.
202g 3.25" Tall, 2.5" Diameter (it also seems oddly heavy)
Thanks!
Allison

Hi Allison,
Welcome to the Forum.
You are far more likely to get a response if you embed your images as very few people will click on links.

Thanks, I was looking for a "How To" but I was apparently was looking it the wrong place. Thanks so much! I'm fixing it now.

One of your pictures. Poorly engraved letters. In a word, it cannot be Tiffany but the lamp -lighter is nice.

Thanks. I'm having THE WORST time getting the images to format. I keep getting an error.
Any thought on to who the maker is? It is kind of a fun piece.

It looks late Victorian.I am not sure whether it`s made of solid silver (possibly plated) but it can be easily checked. As for the maker, we`ll never know.

If you google "Tiffany Cigar Lamp Images" There is one that pops up that is nearly identical. Just the chain attachment location is different.
They removed it because it was on an auction site. I was just using it to get more info, since I can't seem to find any other images of anything similar.

A tentative opinion, but these markings don't quite look correct. Hopefully, I'm just looking at them the wrong way.

I am agreeing with you initial assessment before fully taking in the beginning of your post, sorry.
Re: Tiffany & Co. Cigar Lamp - Authentic??
Quite honestly, if I saw that mark I would put the item down and back away, quickly. I have my doubts about the Tiffany & co mark let alone the extra stamped in lettering. Clearly an item to avoid.

I think your piece is probably authentic and was part of something larger. Why would someone fake a Tiffany hallmark with OTHER METALS on it when there are not other metals (tiffany had plate and soldered marks). Most likely your piece was the heat lamp for a tea set or part of a very elaborate smoking set that had mixed metals with it.

but then again it could just be part of an elaborate fake smoking set, would have to see everything it originally came with to know for sure
