Tiffany mark mystery-- Help appreciated

Post by excalibur1661 »

Dear Board members,

I would be grateful for your input on this tea and coffee set's marks:http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g44 ... G_1021.jpg
http://s1102.photobucket.com/user/fsepa ... 2.jpg.html

All the pieces bear the pattern number 3740, however only one, the sugar bowl, is marked with the the 'M' mark.

My on-line search indicates an 1873 circa date of production. Could the lack of the 'M' mark be due to the fact that the company was going through changes of directors in that year?

Also, I would be grateful for your comments on the 'A' mark which appears on all five pieces.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Hi, you might try posting embedded images of the marks and pieces relating to this post - many will not click on links, and suspect most do not want to search through numerous images for the pertinent pics...

Feel sure there is method on Photobucket for embedding.

Interesting. You have a pattern from approximately 1872-1873, you have makers marks that not used until at least 1943, which could be possible. But the director's mark of an A...that seems impossible, as that is an unknown mark, also an unknown makers mark for that period. Looks highly suspicious.
