Help w Marks on Silver/Blue Glass Salt Cellar British ?

Post by henley31 »

Can anyone help me identify these marks on this silver & blue cobalt glass salt cellar? It is marked J.E. Caldwell which I understand was a silversmith/jeweler who opened a firm/retail store under the name JE Caldwell. I believe the marks are British but have searched and searched and cant seem to find a match on all the marks in each of the shapes on this item. Any help is much appreciated! The last mark isnt quite so clear (sorry!) but appears to be a lion or possibly even a cat. ?

Here are some photos of the item and marks:

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

It's an American piece. See: Watson Company of Attleboro at: http://www.925-1000.com/americansilver_W.html

J.E. Caldwell were the retailers, they were, and still are, based in Philadelphia since 1839.

Thanks so much for your help! No wonder I never had any luck with my research being I was thinking it was a British makers mark...... I appreciate you answering my question. :) Thanks again!
