Unknown Origin Engraved Sterling Spoon

Post by SarahME »

I found a spoon and have looked everywhere for the makers name and hallmarks, without any luck of finding information.

The back of the spoon shows three symbols that look like a dog (maybe lion/animal) facing to the right, then an anchor and then another symbol or letter. It is also marked Pat 98 or 78 and then Sterling, followed by L. Kimball & Co.

The back of the handle is engraved with the initials E.M.E.P? (not sure of the last letter) and is dated Mar 6, 1884.

Any information about the maker/age will be greatly appreciated! Thank you all in advance!

Gorham; the retailer was Leverett Kimball of Haverhill MA. The pattern is Hindustance of 1878.

I found more information and another question

I tried to do a search and found the correct spelling of the pattern, which is Hindostanee. I can not find anything regarding the L. Kimball Co. Is this a rare spoon?[/b]

My apologies for typing in haste.

No, it is not rare.

Information on Kimball can be found here:
