Reed & Barton 925 Silver Serving Spoon

Post by Lawson »

I would appreciate if someone could provide me with any information on this Reed & Barton silver spool (ie. pattern, time period). It is 11.25" (about 29 cms) in length.

Thank you

Hi,

You mention in the title '925 Silver', but is it marked as such?

Thank you for your response. Actually no, it is not marked. I made a mistake when I wrote the question. This spoon is part of a silverware set that belonged to my wife's great-grandparents and she thought that it may have been Silver 800.

Nada chance. It's a silverplate number which specifies double-plate for "8" on tablespoons (ref. Rainwater Ency. of American Silverware Manufactures)...about twice the amount for A-1 standard good quality. Not silver, but decent Reed & Barton that you don't have to go out and buy..so not a loss.
