Possibly silver plated compote.

Postby paulh » Mon Apr 29, 2019 1:10 pm

This rather grand compote belongs to a friend, so I have not actually seen it in the flesh yet, but I have been asked if I can identify the marks. Until I can see it for real I am assuming, from the colour that it is plated. It looks American to me, but I cannot find it in any of my American reference books. Does anyone recognise these marks?

Paul.

Hi Paul,

It's Portuguese. Topazio Casquinha.

Thanks Trev. I should have known that you have records of Portugese silver plate manufacturers! It is silver plated I assume?

Hi Paul,

As far as I'm aware, yes, plated. I'm presuming there are no other marks.

I've seen several examples of the 'T - Crown' mark followed by a variety of letters, so I think this must represent a year letter system by Topazio, but I have never come across any details of the years the letters relate to.

Does anyone have access to such information and can explain it to us?

Trev.
