Haynes & Lawton Silver Company Mark? Post 1900?!!

Post by Traintime »

Reference entry on Pacific Plate Works, thought to be related to Haynes & Lawton and operating as late as circa 1910. Here is a broth spoon with mark "H & L S Co" made for what appears to be the Hotel Alexandria Los Angeles (c.1905). Previously, an item of china for this hotel was found in Canada with marks for the Union Porcelain Works (UPW) of Greenpoint New York (thought to have exited the decorated commercial china market around this time). That could well have been the last order for this important pioneer firm. If this is a Haynes & Lawton mark, we may be looking at one of their final projects also.

The answer was NO! It is in fact another poor quality mark for a Holmes & Edwards S. Co. product: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=32807&p=83086&hili ... ark#p83086

Turns out to be c.1909 Knot Pattern by that International Silver subsidiary.

Another ALEXANDRIA sample of demi-spoon in Reed & Barton Modern Art pattern marked Pat. Applied For, suggesting possibly the earliest service for the hotel's opening:
