Hi,

Just purchased this teapot and while it's a bit crude in some factors of construction, it's made in the fashion similar to other teapots of the era at the least, and does bear what appears to be Sheffield Sterling hallmarks. To the best of our ability have identified the marks as Sheffield, Sterling, 1913, and a makers mark of a "B" in a shield. It does have a good bit of weight to it, 2lbs/907g with handle, and is completely non-magnetic.

The concern is it's a single letter makers mark, it's stamped partially over the date mark, and the lack of detail in the Sheffield and Sterling marks.

Please, can anybody help confirm if this is a counterfeit, or just a somewhat sloppy silversmith? If not counterfeit, any chance on a guess at that makers mark?

It will be silver-plated, not silver. We've seen the that mark many times on the forum, but it's yet to identified with certainty, beyond that it is likely an American manufacturer.

Many thanks for the quick response. Had a slight glimmer of hope but wasn't surprised at all at the verdict. The old adage of "If it's too good to be true..." is typically spot on :)
