Teaspoon washed up on beach

Post by OKernel »

Please excuse my ignorance, but I know nothing about this topic. I am posting it on the Scottish Hallmarks forum only because one of the marks looks like a thistle. Can someone please point me in the correct direction to identifying the origin of the teaspoon that washed up onto my foot on a fairly remote beach in New South Wales (Australia) this morning (15th April 2014)? The images show that it is quite pock-marked, perhaps from spending many decades in the ocean (?) The only clue other than the markings is that it is surprisingly light, though quite sturdy.

What a find !!! :-) Not something I would expect to wash up on a beach unless it came from a shipwreck.... Sorry can't help in identifying the mark but good luck with the research.

That's it Trev!! Thanks very much, you have been a great help … and so quick too. Seems like it has been in the ocean for over 100 years. This has the makings of a great story to tell my Grandchildren. I'll get to work on that right away.

Cheers,

Ian
