Silver "GT" Teaspoon from Melbourne Australian Market

Postby kiwimike » Sun Dec 08, 2013 10:59 pm

Hi all, I am writing this post so as to hopefully find out a bit more out about a silver teaspoon that I bought for my wife at the local "trash & treasure" Sunday market, here in Melbourne Australia.
It was sold to me as a solid silver spoon, but I cannot find anything out from numerous internet searches.
The spoon appears to have the initials GT stamped in a circle, what looks to be a Maltese cross(?) or a bird(?) stamped above, then the number 8 stamped in, & a very hard to read bird(?).
The price was a very modest admin edit no price tickets please, read the forum rules.
If anyone could shed some light on the maker & country of origin & date, i would be extremely grateful.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Mike welcome to the forum,

Not silver but silver plated. GT 84, I believe, could be a variation of the mark used by Gerity Products, Toledo, Ohio, from 1898. Active into the late 20th century.
See electroplating:

and for Gerity trademark see:
