colonial tongs

Post by rat-tail »

Hi some more help required here please. A pair of silver tongs in another late Victorian pattern with marks I am unable to identify. There is a chance that these might be a heavily plated pair - but they certainly have the right attributes and feel for silver, and no sign of any plate wear.
Many thanks Frank

Hi Frank,

They're plated I'm afraid. They were made by Alexander Katch, a German, who set up a factory in St Petersburg in Russia in the second half of the 19th century and was in business there until at least c.1910.

The 'GP' stands for 'Galvano Plated'.
