Austrian Hungarian unknown Maker Mark WM

Post by zeretia »

Hello,

I have been looking everywhere I can find information on silver makers and jewelers in Austro Hungary to no avail
I have found other pieces with the same makers mark but they do not say who the maker is. I know the doghead mark has a P for Wein or Vienna and the date of manufacture is circa 1872. But I would really love to know whose maker mark the WM is. Please help!

Hi,
Letter ``P` stands for Pest (Budapest), Hungary. The mark was used on small articles 1867 - 1922.
Unfortunately the maker is unknown to me.

My mistake. The P is a typo meant to write A. How would I go about finding who the MW stands for? Any ideas?

Only Vienna silversmiths in Neuwirth book.
There is a forum member from Budapest. Hopefully he sees the post.

I just looked again and it is a P after all. So it is Pest. I mistook it for another necklace I have. I just ordered the Ginger Moro book on European designers and I am hoping it helps. If you have a book on Venetian silversmiths I will load a photo of the mark and the necklace, perhaps you can help with that one. I truly do appreciate it.

Thank you,
Maria
