Re: identfy mark

The mark is Laobaoqing (老寶慶, old Baoqing), name of a retailer, probably in Shanghai, though this name was common used by many firms founded by Zhejiang native merchants in many provinces. The bowl was made in 1920s-40s.

Re: Japanese or Chinese Silver Marks?

Not like many other firms or shops in China, the nine great brands (including Feiwenyuan) in Shanghai never used 'Pure Silver' marks in any silverware, only gold items bear the mark for the material. Since they didn't retail silver-plated items, anything looks silver should be in solid silver.

Thanks so much for all the information. Would you also have any info on the fineness of silver. Is it sterling or 750 or a different alloy? I don't think they are silver plated. Yes, it's solid silver. Normally, the fineness of the silverware made or retailed by those important firms in Shanghai be...

The mark "純銀" means pure silver, and the mark “服部製” means "made by Hattori", so the marker and retailer is K. HATTORI & CO., Tokyo, Japan (current Seiko Holdings).

Re: Japanese or Chinese marks on silver bowl,

The retail mark (a crane in a cycle) is for Matsuya department store.

If the mark is only in the internal, then it's a bronze bowl with silver liner (銀内張). This kind of technique mainly used with the products for home market (Japanese tea and sake wares), rather than for exporting.

Firm mark is Baoyilou (宝宜楼), probably in North China. Two fists motif were seen on lots of bracelets made in later Qing dynasty to 1940s. In Chinese language the characters for fist (拳) and power (权) have the same pronunciation, so the motif (fist or 'holden hand') has an implied meaning of the wish...
