Re: Dutck mark ?
Hi OEL - many thanks for passing on your knowledge. It is good to now understand the 'hatchet' mark. I agree completely with your comment on psuedo Dutch marks. I have had many, mainly on spoons over the years! I was just amazed to find this mark on two seperate items completely independant of each ...

Re: German ? Spoon
Thank you Hose - yes Scandinavia was my first thought, in fact I found almost identical makers mark for Andreas Hansen Hind working Bergen 1760 to 1799. But can the style of this spoon be Norwegian or Danish ???? This is my concern. Maybe the administrator can move this to the Scandinavian site? bes...

Dutck mark ?
I have a Dutch, I think 18th century, toy dish, and a two pronged fork which have the same hallmark ( a rather unclear tree). Can anyone identify it? The miniature dish has a Dutch hatchet mark stamped to it, and the small fork has some additional tiny marks that I cannot identify. It is decorated i...

German ? Spoon
Hi - can anyone help identify place and maker of this tablespoon. From its style, I think it might be German. It is stamped 14 1/2, which I presume it the silver loth standard, and makers mark AH cojoined. Many thanks. John http://i54.tinypic.com/2rh9pg8.jpg http://i51.tinypic.com/246l66d.jpg http:/...

Hi Speed
Maybe your beaker is from Odense, Denmark. Can I suggest you move your post to the Scandanavian topic site where someone more knowlegable than me can possibly give you more info. Regards John

Re: Early fish server- ident. of maker sought.
I think your fish slice is from Oslo (Christiana), Norway early 1800's. The R is for Ernst Michael Romer who was the Oslo Guild assay master 1799 to 1817. Makers mark HS possibly for Hans Bjerregaard Steen died 1818. rgds John

Re: Captain spoons
I have a pair of large silver spoons we have been serving vegetables with for many years. Have just noticed prick dot engraving to each handle. One says HAGEN & Co. Pillau. The other is very difficult to read but could be "Rob. Kleyenstuber Sworn Skige Broker in Konigsborg" Maker appea...

Hi Silverport - many thanks again for your help. The silver bowl is rectangular in shape and measures 100mm x 65mm, from handle to handle it is 240mm long, and weighs 84 grams, including wooden handles. Enkhuizen spoon ?
Hi - can anyone help with this spoon that appears to be from Enkhuizen. In addition to the marks in the pictures, there is a small mark in the bowl of an animals head facing right. The spoon is heavily gilded in a deep gold colour, which makes me a little suspicious. Is there any way of knowing whet...

Re: German maker?
Thank you Theoderich - this has been puzzling me for a few years, so I am pleased it is now resolved. Looking more closely at the date letter, I think it could be N for 1827? Do you know what dates Mussmann was active? Thanks again John

German maker?
Hi - Can anyone help identify the maker of this bell shaped beaker that I think dates from around 1800. Makers mark IM, and another mark which has the shape of a late Augsburg punch, but cannot see what is inside the stamp. Many thanks John http://d.imagehost.org/t/0716/MVC-012F.jpg http://d.imageho...

Hi - can anyone help with the identification of this teaspoon. It is of Scottish fiddle pattern ( without shoulders). Hallmarked with Lion passant - facing right, duty mark and letter C. There are two maker's or retailers marks B.G and Co. and H & N. Would be grateful for any help. Thanks John M...

Hi - This is a large and heavy silver basting spoon 13 inches long. Hallmarked with a crowned P and a makers mark FPT. The decoration makes me think it dates from mid to late 19th century. I am presuming it is Portuguese, but I may be totally wrong. Any help wouyld be appreciated. Thanks John MVC-02...

Thank you very much OVO and Silverport. The history is fascinating - how one small spoon can lead to the research and interest in a whole company, and indeed a city (Barcalona). I have had another look at the spoon, and it clearly has a hand beaten finish on the stem. The bowl is smooth. Thanks for ...
