Maker of Scottish provincial teaspoon
Hi all - think this teaspoon might be Scottish provincial. Bottom marked and looks like IW or possibly HW - any thoughts or details of the maker appreciated - regards Frank http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/ll197/frankchemaly/scotprovteaa1_zpseaed1877.jpg http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/ll197/fr...

Help with german soup ladle
Hi All - any help identifying the maker of this 12 loth soup ladle would be appreciated - also any info on the maker. It looks like H Kloeppej or H Kloeppri or possibly H Kloeppei. I have listed it in the German section because of the 12 loth mark but it may be Eastern European. Regards Frank http:/...

Re: Dutch silver needle case
Hi OEL
Many thanks for you time and expertise - much appreciated.
I must admit I didn't expect it to be quite so early - it's the only piece of silver I have that's over 300 years old.
Regards Frank

Dutch silver needle case
Hi any information appreciated with this somewhat battered needle case. I think it may be Dutch C18. Three hallmarks have been squashed onto the base of the case - there appears to be the three Andreas crosses for Amsterdam but the rest is a mystery. Possibly and A or a K for a date letter and some ...

Cape spoons - Johannes Casparus Lotter
Hi - have recently acquired two Cape table spoons with marks for Johannes Casparus Lotter. For once the spoons are in good condition - as are the marks. But are they Lotter senior or Junior. Weltz attributes this exact JCL mark (no76) to Lotter senior - but without the two stars. A slightly differen...

Re: colonial teaspoons
Hi Miles - many thanks I assume by this date most European countries had effective marking systems generally in force, which would seem to rule out France, the Netherlands, Austria, Belgium, Portugal and Russia (and areas or Eastern Europe under Russian influence). I think - if I remember correctly ...

Tray marked 800 - possibly spurious
Hi All I wonder if anyone recognises these marks as silver marks. They appear on a rather crude handmade tray 47cm over the handles. They are 800 in an oval, st in an oval and then a star, 39 and PA in a rectangle. The tray itself does not appear to be silver. I don't think it is plated, but it look...

colonial tongs
Hi some more help required here please. A pair of silver tongs in another late Victorian pattern with marks I am unable to identify. There is a chance that these might be a heavily plated pair - but they certainly have the right attributes and feel for silver, and no sign of any plate wear. Many tha...

colonial teaspoons
Hi all I was wondering if anyone could assist with these marks - looks like a late Victorian pattern and got a date engraving for 1886, any idea who GH might be - or where he was working. - Many thanks Frank PS sprry pics shot at night under brass chandeliers - hence the goldish colours http://i288....

Re: napkin ring hallmarks
Hi guys - here's another example of the same silversmith's marks - this time with a date letter G or possibly a C- also on a set of three napkin rings. And like a lot of modern South African silver, what they lack in style or design, they make up for in weight. regards Frank PS hope this doesn't vio...

Re: Pair of silver tablespoons - Russian or Austrian?
Gentlemen - thanks very much. I had a feeling these spoons were Eastern Europe after World War 1 and great to learn something about Polish marking systems - much appreciated - Frank. PS sadly the marks look pretty much like this in real life - they're very rubbed - and the photos were taken through ...

Pair of silver tablespoons - Russian or Austrian?
Hi I have a pair of silver table spoons that look Russian in design and have an 84 mark, but think the mark with a head and a three may indicate Austrian or post WW1 Eastern European marks. Could this be a Russian import mark of some sorts? The Maker's mark RB and the head mark on the reverse of the...

Re: French slice, but the marks don't make sense
Thanks Trev - much appreciated It now starts to make sense. And would assume it was later rather than earlier in the period. Presume it is a fish slice but it might be some sort of bon bon spoon or pastry lift - I know the Americans have unusual serving pieces. I've even heard of pieces described as...

French slice, but the marks don't make sense
Hi all any help identifying what looks to be s french fish or pie slice 24cm long with gilt washed bowl. The marks to me are confusing. The closest match is a standard mark for 1809 to 1819 but the piece to me looks to have been made at least 50 years after that - certainly the engraving would sugge...

Re: Possibly Cork soup ladle
Thanks Trev I must admit when I bought the ladle I thought it was Scottish - still do and you've confirmed that - and was somewhat surprised when researching in Jacksons lead me to the Cork page. Yet the mark is definitely JMd. It's not the clearest of photos - sorry - but there is a definite line t...
