Sign in challenge
Wondering if anyone has the knowledge to assist with a sign in challenge I am having. Am able to sign in on my first generation iPad here as you see but can not no matter how many times I try to sign in on my HP laptop. Do want to start posting images again which will also require me to upgrade my p...

Re: Old spoon? Dating and ID
Dear Sebastian, As human beings we have a tendency to mark important events; birthdays, christenings, graduations, promotions, marriages, and deaths are just a few of those. Although the symbolism here may not be compleltely Catholic iconography, like other Danish and Noewegian baptismial spoons pos...

Re: Old spoon? Dating and ID
Good day Sebastian, From my limited understanding this would be considered a baptismal or christening spoon. Have a slightly smaller one of a similar design by Gustav Hellstrom. Do take a close look at the engraving in the bowl. A large flaming heart pierced by two arrows, the sun and moon above, a ...

Re: Loth Standard Spoon. Cloaked man finial.
Please believe me when I say I know exactly what your describing, have two of them sitting next to me. Both bowls tip back, there is an upward curve that begins to flow down then up again at the finial. The bowls have a white base enamel with flowing vines attached to red and blue flowers. It is bor...

The firm of Peter Hertz Copenhagen
In an effort to understand the wider context of silver production in Copenhagen during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, I wanted to focus on Peter Hertz. As I understand it Peter Hertz was born in Copenhagen in 1811. From age 14 he worked within the trade. Read that Peter established himself ...

Re: Loth Standard Spoon. Cloaked man finial.
Gentlemen, I also have a large enameled serving spoon which has the same four marks as previously described. From the top the Copenhagen date mark for 1890, 924 silver content mark, the mystery mark, and Simon Groth's master assay mark. On the link you provided there are 24 different examples of th...

Re: Need Help with ID of Maker
Hi Dave, Is it possible to get a better closeup of the marks? Try laying the spoon down on a textured surface such as a linen napkin. Place your camera on the macro setting without flash. Indirect day light through drape will defuse the glaring effect. Then just keep shooting until you get the right...

Just noticed that besides the scallop design on the finial, the drop also has a scallop design there. Have not see that before in my limited experience.

Aguest,
I remember your thread, have a huge Mollerup dumpling spoon with the same mark you have. This does not appear to be his MP mark. Let's see what others have to say.

Re: Maybe German? Maker??
Good day Rubyfish, First mark appears to be a double struck BS, the second which you need to roll completely over is loth number 13 over what appears to be the upper case letter Z. The closest match I would find was Offenburg 1834 Bernhard Schaible. Loth numbers were used in many locations, 13 indic...

Re: Tea Strainer with Sailing Ship Mark and HIB&S.. Denmark?
Thank you Hose, always good to hear your feedback on what we are looking at. While trying to locate other examples of the Helsingor city mark, which I actually did not find on the internet in my initial search, it reminded me of a search I made a few months ago when trying to nail down an unknown ci...

Re: Tea Strainer with Sailing Ship Mark and HIB&S.. Denmark?
I believe that Hose is asking for further shots, like the scratch mark on the back and the side profile. And yes as Hose will tell you not unusual to see two, three, or even four city marks on Danish provincial silver. You can review that material here in older posts. Interested to hear what else he...

Re: Tea Strainer with Sailing Ship Mark and HIB&S.. Denmark?
Good evening, Yes this does seem to be the city mark for Tonder (Danish) or Tondern (German) although I have never seen one so crisp. The makers mark HIB & S I have had no luck with. On the scratch mark on the other side may have been placed there by a previous owner since it is not in the usual...

Good day Helen,
The closest match I could find was above world marks section under German silver post 1886 in the unidentified section. Sorry I would not be of more assistance.
