Re: Help with Identification
Hi! With only the photo of the marks including only some knowledge of the quality of engraving which can be seen at the rim of the photo which seem very mediocre I would estimate this would be some other master than Ovtschinnikov with the initial ии? Thereby the photo of the item is always important...

Re: Faberge sugar bowl?
Hi! Good and interesting comments by Aguest, I share your opinion on the quality aspects of the sugar bowl, especially regarding the pineapple final and also the fringe I think is very well done. This is how you can see the differences by the high quality makers from the more general silver smiths r...

Re: Russian Ice Cream Serving Set? Hallmarks?
Hi! There seem to be different opinions if these would be ice cream servers or aspic servers even by reputable sources, the shape of the server would at least to my opinion work well both for ice cream and aspic jelly. It can clearly be said that the mid-Europeans had these kind of ice cream serving...

Hi!
One addition, I believe the last spoon in the Goldsteins pictures is a soup spoon which typically has a round bowl in difference to table spoons for other types of meals in addition to also soups.

Juke

Re: Russian Ice Cream Serving Set? Hallmarks?
Hi! Indeed a nice set and congratulations for that. The set is actually not an ice cream serving set but consists of cake servers and an aspic server for jelly (on the right). The set has originally been consisted of a larger set but has at some point of their life been divided which is very common....

Re: Please help to identify Russian mark on a tea glass holder
Hi Johanna!
The tea glass holder is unfortunately not authentic Russian silver, the marks are imitating the very well known silver smith house of Gratchev but as said the mark is not authentic.

Juke

Re: Sazikov - again...
Hi! In the last discussion from couple years back the opinions differed on this matter. I myself do see these markings in auctions quite regularly so it is not a novelty or markings appearing only time to time. Unfortunately I have not seen any new information regarding this medal marking, anyway I ...

Re: Sazikov I
They are not prominences, the handmade silver from this time never is even and flat, also as you can see from the bottom of the whole marking which indicate the same for the marking tools not to be totally flat. Also the upper 'prominence' is continuing to the right which it could not do and the low...

Hi,
I want to comment that in the latter photo in my opinion the control mark is not stroke before but the makers mark is stroke deeper and the control mark on it not as deep. It might seem the other way. Thereby I consider the markings on both photos authentic.

Juke

Hi!
The marks are to my opinion authentic, the kokoshnik mark is only somewhat worn, I don't see any reason for something else.
I consider it is an ordinary table knife, a fruit knife would be sharper at the end.

Juke

Re: Not often seen enamel from Schaposchnikov
Hi, Thank you for the new pictures. I am more happy with the sugar tongs than the other objects. You might be as well be right, I don't claim you would be wrong but I am more cautious to claim something authentic if there is something that bothers. You know well how the twisted wires should look lik...

Re: Not often seen enamel from Schaposchnikov
Hi! Sorry to say but to my opinion the napkin ring and match box cover don't look authentic to me. Especially the wire don't look like it should be, also otherwise the work is not up to the standard it should be. The enamel works are difficult ones and especially to forge them. Can't say nothing abo...

Re: HELP Identify conflicting marks on a unique stand
Hi!
I see no special reason to think that the object would not be authentic. There are a few Gratshev mark where the double headed eagle is either on top or on the left of the mark, I think this is one of them. I myself have a few Gratshev pieces and this is my personal opinion.

Juke

Re: Cleaning guilded silver
Hi! I heard of a great method to clean guilded silver and it is chalk powder. You mix the powder with water and spread the mix on the guilded parts with a soft sponge, let it rest for a minute then rinse it of with water. Then you just dry with a cotton cloth. It is important that the chalk is powde...
