No to sixt month. I dont think so. The names of the monthmark is corresponding to the astrologi (is that the english word?) Twins, Toros, Scorpion, Aquarius, Bull, Lion etc and not related to a specific month. So June is actualy Twins (look like #) and Krepsen (dont know the english name for that on...

One problem is 53 in the mark - that should represent 1753 or most likely 1853. And 1853 is not realy likely for this spoon - So i am a bit confused.

Hello Bahner I dont fully agree with you. My Norwegian book do not cover Trondheim - that city is in volume 2 and I dont think that it is published yet. The mark of June 22nd until July 22nd is 69 turned 45 degrees. I was thinking of the mark of the Lion July 23rd until August 23rd - but it's not re...

Hello Bahner
That was precicely my thinking. I just translated Frihedsmuseet into "Museum of liberation" - for the "International audience".

You are right it belongs in a museum.

WWII - a danish war hero

I don’t really need help with this item. This is a story from World War 2 and it is a true story. Denmark was occupied from April 9th 1940 until May 5th 1945. The Nazi regime occupied Denmark and as we are a small country very little resistance was possible. However the Danish soldiers fought a batt...

Unfinished - I know why. Once you make an item you end up by giving it a treatment with asid. That removes the copper from the top of the silver. If you test it you will get 1000 silver (surface). The pure silver gives the thing that look of shining (white) silver. A surface that you cannot create y...

On my 3 spoons they are structural.
I.E. they are all made in 2 pieces in order to strengthen the spoon. If that was your question.

The spoons I have shown today are all decorative. Execpt the Norwegian that I posted to compair.

This contribution is a bit away from the subject. The picture presents 5 spoons - 2 dinner spoons from Oslo 1776 and 1798. The last one engraved. Then 3 different tea spoons where the silver smith has engraved 3 different ways to present the "no drop" http://sv1.letmehost.com/sv1/24/thumbs...

Customers expected spoons to look i a certain way. This spoon is from Norway, Christiania 1798 (Oslo). You might expect that the spoon was earlier due to the ornamentation. But mark says different. I would also expect that the spoon was made in two pieces. But it is not. The customer expected to see...

I had an idea that you might be able to see what period the spoons were made during. But it seems that there is no patern. I have selected some spoons from 173? ties up to 1797. http://sv1.letmehost.com/sv1/24/thumbs/IMG_9627_bb.JPG Spoons from Denmark and Sweden. The one from 1747 is that a normal ...

But somehow it looks as though they used different type of tools. I cannot beliew that the skill of the asseyer is the reason for this difference. Some look as though they were made by "free hand" others that they used a tool for just to - well I dont know ! One even slipped when making. S...

In my book they write that the sample was taken with a "gravstikke" and that it was done with hasty movements. They also call it tremulerstik. The oldermandsranke (danish for the zig zag. Is wery unusual in Denmark. They used needles. The object was scratch towards a probersten (probiren s...

Silver spoons Weilandt

I have these 2 spoons with the mark 12 and WEILANDT. The zig zag line is 4,6cm I think that is a long line for a sample. http://sv1.letmehost.com/sv1/24/thumbs/IMG_9623_b.JPG http://sv1.letmehost.com/sv1/24/thumbs/IMG_9622_s.JPG Can anyone confirm whether they are German? and give me an idea of how ...

Another guardein was added to my collection today. Christian Næboe. Guardein between 1823 and 1827. He was guardein when he was 53 years old. He died 4 years later. So his mark is a little bit rare. I bought 4 spoons with his mark so I also got the 3 towers from 1823. Part of the same lot was 2 for...
