Re: Can anyone help identify the manufacturer and years of production?

The name Farnese in Italian has no accent. The grave accent on the first e seems to indicate a French pronunciation.

Re: A few information on some Italian pseudo-marks

Venezia Venice is certainly the best known, loved and most visited city in the world, and the demand, obviously, increases the prices of anything Venetian: crafts, restaurants, hotels and of course silver, even more so, if it is antique. High prices make great temptation to make up for the scarcity...

Re: A few information on some Italian pseudo-marks

Hi Julio I do not think so. the markss in use during the French occupation are of a type preceding the Minerva, which I believe came into force in 1838. https://i.postimg.cc/fLPVmspk/marchi-francesi.jpg The papal mark with n. 168 guarantees a fineness of 889/1000. The inkwell is certainly of Roman m...

Re: A few information on some Italian pseudo-marks

Hi Theo I have encountered this mark other times, I have now managed to find three examples. In these the mark is always alone. https://i.postimg.cc/fLZZ10Pj/ZUCCHERIERA-Art-06.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/Wzqvk6qV/pontificio-bemark.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/qRPkQ5Tq/cambi-piatti-1b.jpg The lot descripti...

Re: A few information on some Italian pseudo-marks

Hi The differences you see in the marks are easily explainable The largest, which I have spoken about at length, is the one for medium-sized objects, and is the most commonly used. The smaller one which has the rounded shield at the top is the one for small objects. https://i.postimg.cc/fy1bZ9tF/rom...

Re: Vintage Italian silver basket. Maker?

I feel like I'm reading 1166 FI.
In this case it would be CIEFFE S.a.s. by Fossi Marco, via Dosio 31 Florence. Silver processing for third parties.
However, if it is 1188 FI, then it is Stella d'oro by Luca Fanetti, via Colleramole 11 Impruneta (FI)

A few information on some Italian pseudo-marks

The scarcity of authentic ancient silver has given rise to a thriving craft of imitations all over the world, sometimes even of exquisite workmanship. Italy obviously cannot be an exception, and in fact in every type of market and in the online catalogs of auction houses it is very frequent to find ...

Re: Italian? silver fish, maker?

Certainly Italian, but identifying the silversmith is difficult. There are three possible cities Florence, Milan and Vicenza and for each there are 10 numbers that begin with 2. If you are unable to read something more by observing the mark in real life you will not be able to reduce the candidates....

Hi Pear Tree You said "I don't understand it" Don't worry, you are not the only one, the law and above all the implementing regulation are not entirely clear. Law 305 of 3 February 1934, in articles 21 and 22, establishes that already finished objects found at the manufacturers' premises c...
