Re: 13. loth box.

Thank you very much for info. These are the only marks on box. I thought this was indeed german made by the engine turned design of wavy lines/diamond shapes on box circa 1850. Found this box and another that had hallmarks unfamiliar will add other box marks on other countries research area.

Thank you Cheryl for info on small crowned heart very informative. I guess I should consider the larger scent heart a Luktevannshus. When my 9 year old granddaughter first saw scent heart she told me this was a boys silver heart made by ET the extra terrestrial. I have to say all things considered I...

Re: What-is-it question CXCXVI

Well I guess this answers the exact size question. I always wondered how to rolled your own in the old days so you could use the silver holders. Too small would just fall out too large and would not fit holders. My dad would roll his own velvet or prince albert. His opinion was that hand rolled mach...

Re: polishing equipment

If you are having work bench made for against wall. Consider height kitchen table top and width to wall kitchen, counter top length what ever desired. If table top height you can work some while comfortably seated. If width not to wide can easily reach across to back wall if you wish to add shelving...

Re: What-is-it question CXCXVI

Seen one at work in the usa once made sort of like this item. The tube was split and there was a cap on end. We thought it may have been an internal hole gauge. Would show when a hole dia. was a go or no go quality wise. The only reason why it would be made of sterling maybe it was used in dairy or ...

Re: polishing equipment

My hands don't work well anymore either after 40 years industrial maintenance/electrician in the steel industry. If you have an area to devote to a solid wooden work bench that is secured so it wont tip over. Why not secure silver work pieces with soft jawed vice or larger pieces with wood jigs cove...

What is this little rooster tube with stone used for?

We have not tested yet at jewelers looks like gold plated silver. It has a small ring on leg maybe to be worn as pendant and there was a lot of snuff residue on inside. Maybe this type of item more common in Europe. May or may not have one small mark on inside hard to tell. Any idea? https://www.925...

Re: polishing equipment

Hello, I would not think using a bench grinder would ever give you the results for what you wish to accomplish. A 6in. to 8 in. cloth buffing wheel on a 1/ 2 horse powered motor turns at approx. 1000rpms or more. There will be a fixed guard (housing around 2/3 of the wheels circumference) and a rest...

Re: Help with german box marked 1663 with hallmarks.

Hello Theoderich,
I found your post on the A. Holle 12 loth item with chevron hallmark in forum. It is very near exact to 18th century Hanau chevron. This is the first time I have seen the castle with the shield chevron in archway. Thank you for this info.

Re: German silversmith?

The hallmark to right is 800 in a square lozenge. I do not see any other marks. There is a silver hallmark of Bern, Switzerland XVI Shield with passant bear. Maybe someone more recent has fashioned their hallmark similarly.

German silversmith?

Is anyone familiar with this silversmith mark seems similar to Mannheim Jean Schmitt Heidelbergs mark in resource e-book section. But this wine taster looks more like 1900s.
