Re: a filigree rosary - probably portuguese

Current marks were used since 1986, meaning your rosary was made between 1938 - 1986. On May 1st, 1986, was created the current Assay Offices Department of the Portuguese Mint and Official Printing Office, incorporating the Lisbon and Oporto Assay Offices, with the later including a delegation in Go...

Re: Vienna Silversmith and MS

Hi, I have no references in regard of retailing business and trade between Vienna silversmiths, so we can only speculate. Sometimes we depend on logic, like in this case: http://925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=28963&p=138023&hilit=a+bachruch#p138023 Far more likely a firm from Bu...

Re: Vienna Silversmith and MS

Hi,
I think this is the post referring to Klinkosch and Stern.

Two identical helmet marks used by two silversmiths in Vienna, not very likely. Retailers.

Re: Spanish Silver Box Questions

Hi, Welcome to the forum. Satostegui (San Sebastian), still in business at Urbieta 60, was founded in 1925. They repaired and retailed silver so I think the maker is Dionisio Garcia Gomez, or more precisely his sons. (One of their marks was amphora in the oval). The numbers are of no importance (inv...

Re: vintage cross Egyptian ankh gold ??

Hi, I think it`s silver, Cairo, fineness .800. Compare your mark on the left with 18 K gold mark on the right. Cairo in Arabic script is on top in both marks, the we have ‚‚800‚‚ in your mark and ‚‚18‚‚ for gold (right). Besides, there is no ‚‚800‚‚ gold standard in Egypt. But I would suggest to tes...

HI, My final post regarding superb Moscow silversmith at the end of 18th century, the fragment of a chalice maid in 1795. Re: Tiffany & Co Owl Bottle - Help with info & date please

Hi, Tiffany & Co. has 7 shops (retailers) in London. The London Assay Office is a reliable institution, probably no sponsor`s mark was required if the item was brought to be assayed by one of Tiffany & Co branches. So, I suppose, it`s genuine Tiffany. The place of manufacture is another issu...

Hi, I had similar box about the same period, but its position was different, it was meant to stand upright. The cross was on top and it was missing, repaired, and sold. Mine opened in front, therefore nothing could be kept inside it, was to shallow. I thought it was meant for an icon or a relic of s...
