Agreed. The "0" is a bit squashed in shape/size, but reads as 950 to me

Re: Help with hall marks please
Also, not sure about late 1800s (per your earlier message). You don't have a duty mark - and your date letter appears to be a capital (not lower case). Anyway, have a look at this great page run by forum member PhilO and see which of the date letters fit (http://www.silvermakersmarks.co.uk/Dates/Bir...

Re: Help with hall marks please
Hi
The picture of the marks is pretty blurry / imprecise. I reckon it is either 1962 or 1987 - hard to tell the difference. It depends on the shape of the cartouche (shape of the punched mark).
Maker is unknown to me. Maybe someone else may know.

Re: 2 spoons
Hi I think that they are still Cooper Brothers & Sons - the last letter in the maker's mark isn't that clear, but I can see an "s" and the combination of those letter with the shape of the cartouche is persuasive. Date wise, I'll go for 1960 - the "s" in 1935 is too "fat...

Re: Pair of Spoons Marked C. Cook
Hi I'll let someone else with more expertise comment on the style/pattern and possible dates. As regards the mark, the excellent website run by the esteemed Wm Voss doesn't list a silversmith with that name, but does list a retailer (jeweler) called Charles A Cook, born 1849 and probably active mid ...

Re: antique French oil&vinegar set - 1795?
I'm no expert on French silver, but I had a glance at my copy of Tardy, who seems to indicate (page 188) that the lady-head mark (used by the Association of Gold and Silversmiths) was found 50 years later on some Paris pieces (and shown as being used from 1794 to ?)....perhaps suggesting that your s...

Re: Sterling silver necklace with unknown marks
Agree with RedMask. The use of STG as an abbreviation for sterlking was/is quite common. There is no formal hallmarking system/register in Australia and thus no register of maker's marks. However, in a country with some unique fauna it is not uncommon for an Australian piece to be punched with an an...

Re: A strange object in the determination and identification.
Hi
Can't help with the use of the item.
Assume you know the following (which I'm putting in just for others looking at this thread):
* Italian 925 sterling standard.
* Made post 1968
* Made in Firenze by the maker assigned the 665 number.
Regards

Re: Country of Origin?
G'day Trev
My initial impression when I looked at it was - South East Asian (the orchid design is nicely done), but the symbol (crown/bird) custom added to buyer request? May explain the lack of 'initial' hallmarks. Anyway, just a "shot in the dark".
Cheers

William Skeen is another possibility, assuming the maker's mark was punched on an inverted basis from the assay office marks.

Re: 1767 London Sterling Coffee Pot, can't read the mark
Hi Great item. Date - Agree with 1767. Very distinctive (unique?) "M" date letter. Maker - The mark is very rubbed. However, it looks like that the mark is italicised, begins with maybe a "W" and in a quite unique looking cartouche. Options: 1. On this page here (http://www.silve...

Re: Small English Sterling Oval Footed Bowl - Salt Cellar?
Hi Date - I may be off the mark here (and if so, someone will correct me!), but you've got a Crowned Leopard Head - so we'd have to be looking pre 1822 - and specifically I think 1784 (29 May to 30 November, because there is no duty mark?). Think Sampson Mordan may be a bit too late in date? Maker -...

Re: WM Rogers spoon
Hi Silver plate, not sterling - William Rogers is a well known maker. Refer this link http://www.925-1000.com/silverplate_R3.html - founded 1865, so dated some time after that. Became part of the International Silver Co in 1898 I understand, which may account for the I S markings. So personally susp...

Re: Interesting Danish marks
Thanks all for your comments - and apologies for the close up of my gloves! I'll clean the clasp shortly - it's a piece owned by my parents, they always thought it was just sterling silver! Mum vaguely recalls picking it up at an antique store many moons ago. Always good to have some history with a ...

Barker Ellis Silver Co money clip
Hi all
Here is a money clip I received as a present. I'm a little puzzled by the lack of a date letter - did the 2002 Jubilee mark double as a date letter? I didn't think so....
Any help appreciated
Cheers

Interesting Danish marks
Hi all Interesting family piece (although I don't know how it arrived in the family!). Pendant. Maker may be Bernard Hertz (open to suggestions though). The clasp is marked BH, 925S, which is fairly normal. But it is the other mark that interests me. Why does the 585 mark signify on what appears to ...

Re: M & Co 5581 Silverplate Dish..
Hi
I've seen that mark attributed to Marples & Co of Sheffield, active at Napier St, Sheffield (1900-1907). Hard to be definite about silver plate marks as they weren't required to register marks with the Assay Office (as c.f. silversmiths)
