Re: Another unknown silvermark
Another great job dear Blackstone! I also though about Portugal(saw similar hallmarks in the Tardy book) but the 'poor' design of my sugar tong made me think it was not from the beginning of the XIX but certainly from the xx. But... About the crab hallmark, after reading what you wrote, I don't know...

Many thanks Blackstone! I hadn't think about Hanau and it could be an answer! I Will continue my research on this basis!

Another unknown silvermark
Here is a second item (a sugar tong) which I can not identify all the hallmarks. I've made a lot of research on it, find one of the three hallmarks (the french guarantee "crab" hallmark for silver) but remain dubious: if this item comes from France (crab hallmark), the silversmith hallmark...

Unknown silver hallmarks
Hello everybody! Here is a picture of silver hallmarks that I can not identify. I only find the hallmark "A" with a "1" which is an autrichian hallmark from 1896 for importated silver items: http://i42.tinypic.com/2hfl546.jpg (admin photo edit - images too large - link only - see...

Thank you for clarifying ;-)

Another thing: look at the chain's clip if there are hallmarks ;-) If nothing appears, you have another evidence that is a (silver?) costume item!

Re: French Purse Frame
Hi Hannaley and welcome to this incredible forum! ;-) My opinion is your item is very recent. Nothing to deal with an old silver find. That is the mark "Made in France" which makes me think about it. A very easy and fluent way to "translate" french hallmarks is to find the hallma...

Hi Silverstork,
as I can not see exactly the maker's hallmark, you will tell me exactly what appears to you: Are you sure of the C with a star? Can't it be a crescent moon?

Smoka

Is it Fake or Not? 9
Be sure i'm not going further in numbers! ;-) Only if some peole are interested in and if that can be a way to brighten up the forum! My analysis on this cigarettes case: - hallmark: Kokoshnik Mark: Kiev, 1908-1926; Maker's Mark: KC for Konstantin Illarionovich Skvortsov (Moscou, 1908-1917) and a 2n...

Re: Is Fake or Not? 7
Hi again Zolotnik! I would say Tardy, because it is very useful for french hallmark (is not Tardy french? ;-))). I agree that russian knowledge is, from my point of view, very difficult to apprehend (langage, lack in russian history,etc...). That is why, I will really make the necessary in literatur...

Re: Is it Fake or Not?8
Thanks for your reactions! I was guessing it could be fake, but (as you cans see), I tried to analyse with the different "tools" you gave me Zolotnik! One thing is a huge evidence: the poor quality compared to the pictures you posted! But, as you can see, I (slowly) begin to understand the...

Is it Fake or Not?8
Back with another find... I will try my own analysis: - hallmarks: Kokoshnik Mark: Moscow, After 1908; I'm not confident with the "88" mark, frequently rare! ; the maker's mark confirms Moscow. Grigory Sbetnayev (1893) seems to be the maker but is that not in contradiction with the Kokoshn...

Re: Is Fake or Not? 7
Thank you for those literatures!
The first one that I consider as the French Tardy for silvermark, seems to be a real reference for russian silversmith and -marks. But also difficult to find and very expensive as the second one. But I will be patient and opportunistic!
Best regards,
Smoka

You're right Zolotnik! I've got to find by myself!
Moreover, I guessed the stamp was obligatory in each part of a silver item... That the same for the french one!
I've got to improve myself and be logic!
Thanks for the time you grant to me ;-)
