Hi Chaddy welcome to the forum. I believe you knife handles are made out of Nacre better known as mother of pearl. Mother of pearl is the common name for iridescent nacre, a blend of minerals that are secreted by oysters and other mollusks and deposited inside their shells. The shell of various spec...

Hi Paul, The maker’s mark; P . D above 5 pointed star in a trefoil, I believe not to be a Dutch maker’s mark, also the absence of a date letter makes it more unlikely to be Dutch. The city mark does not appear to be Dutch and could be for the city of Zofingen in Switzerland during the 18th century. ...

Hi, If you rotate your image 90 degrees to the right you might recognize the maker’s mark, a hammer between two Z for; Zaanlandse Zilversmederijen n.v./b.v., Haarlem & Amsterdam mark used 1920/1990. See below: http://imageshack.us/a/img547/526/6qct.jpg http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic.php...

Re: Hermes Paris Letter opener
Hi Welcome to the forums,
If the letter opener lacks any French silver hallmarks and the maker's mark is in a square, not a lozenge, the letter opener could well be silver-plated and perhaps made around 1950-1960

Hi Emma,
To my knowledge the Old Dutch wagons, in Dutch called huifkar, often had a pair of oversized back wheels compared to the smaller front pair. I wouldn’t rule out South African or America in connection with (Dutch) Europian settlers.
