The C&CC mark is for Clive & Clarissa Cooke. I am grateful to Lyn Mills at the London Assay Office who replied to my query within an hour. Probably late 1970s or 1980s.

Yes, it's Birmingham 1911. Made by James Swann. James Swann (& Son) 1887 - 2005 James Swann was born in 1837 - the year Queen Victoria acceded to the throne and also the same year Charles Horner was born. He founded the thimble making company in 1887 at 59 Branston Street and later moved to 25 H...

Could the D AND FS be CS*FS?

FS LTD could be Finnigans Ltd.

M BROS possibly Mitchell Bros.

C&N possibly Crisford & Norris.

It would be easier to help you if you could post pics of the marks.

Beehive Thimble - Maker C&CC?

I bought this neat ensemble at a fair this morning. The thimble is marked inside with a maker's mark C&CC. The assay marks are not clear but think I can make out the lion passant and (possibly) leopard's head marks. Can anyone identify the maker C&CC? https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg h...

The date letter is actually for Birmingham 1933. I suppose it would be called a Desk Calendar.

I'm only guessing but the word Kränzchen also means a small wreath or posy so perhaps the the item was some sort of receptacle for flowers. 13 might be a pattern number. The only way to find out if it is silver is to test it or ask a jeweller to test it for you. I would guess that it is some sort o...

That's very interesting, Bahner. Many thanks for your reply. I can think of one other thimble maker who was based in Schwäbisch-Gmünd: Soergel & Stollmeyer whose thimbles were sometimes marked like this on the top:

German Thimble - Maker?

Can anyone identify the maker (RO) of this German thimble? From the style I would guess that it is late 19th/early 20th century.

When English items of silver are constructed of more than one piece you often find that the full set of hallmarks are applied to just one piece and the lion passant (and sometimes date letter) is applied to others. It would seem that your badge is missing the fully hallmarked section - the badge cli...

Thank you for the information. I am new on here, is there anyone who I should inform that I have a possible previously undocumented mark? This could be a an undocumented mark for S Ward & Sons. Here are their documented marks as they appear in Maurice H. Ridgway and Philip T. Priestley, The Compendium of Chester Gold & Silver Marks 1570 to 1962 (Woodbridge: The Antique Collectors’ Club, 2004). https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Xim...

Vinaigrette Makers?

Can anyone ID the makers of this vinaigrette box (I·A over ?·B)? London 1802, I think. The engraved pattern is a bit unusual - looks like a jigsaw puzzle with missing pieces or a whacky mappa mundi. The grille's nice though. https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg...

Yes, Pat, it's the same people who make the best chocolate in the world. The version of the ad above requires Real Player so I've converted it for Windows Media Player. If you still can't see it let me know and I'll see if I can do a version for valve sets. https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg Cad...

Is it a rather fussy version of one of the characters from the classic 70s Cadbury's Smash ad?
