Silver box - possibly Dutch late 18th century
Hi All - Firstly an apology in advance, the marks on this attractively plain silver box a very rubbed and I have battled to photograph them. Think this is probably a spice or tobacco box. At 12cm by 8cm, it's a bit big for a snuff box and probably too small for a sugar box. The simple reeded work on...

18th century spoon - Utrecht
Hi - would appreciate any help identifying maker and date of this 18th century tablespoon. I think it is for Utrecht and that for some reason the town mark is stamped twice. The date letter looks like a capital K. There is also a crowned o. Could this be a tax mark? The Maker's mark looks like a sea...

18th century spoons - amsterdam
Hi All - any help dating these early Dutch spoons would be appreciated. I presume they are from amsterdam and of first standard. The date letter is a u. Sadly the maker's mark is indecipherable on all four spoons, I've shot the best version. - many thanks Frank http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/ll1...

Re: Bottom marked sauce ladle
Did a quick and very inconclusive internet search on WE Wyllys. Nothing really came up although it would seem the name originates from the Scottish border area particularly around Dumfries. There is obviously a branch of the family in belfast and the name is strong in early Connecticut history with ...

Re: Bottom marked sauce ladle
Hi Warren - sorry the pictures aren't great - but then the marks really are finished. I'll try in better light later in the week.
Will also try to get a better shot of the drop - that may point us in the right direction. thanks

Bottom marked sauce ladle
Hi All any help with these hieroglyphics would be appreciated. I am not even sure that it is London, but let's start here. A sauce ladle 17.5cm long, bottom marked. Engraved on back of terminal PBF from WB Wyllys. Has two crests on front. The mark closest to the bowl is very unclear although it does...

unusual Scottish dessert spoons
Hi All - any help on a maker here would be appreciated. A set of five silver dessert spoons assayed Edinburgh 1810, maker WC. The spoons are unusual in that while they have fiddle ends, they have no shoulders and Hanoverian shaped bowls. Look a little odd really. My copy of Jacksons lists no match f...

York teaspoons - Barber, Cattle and North
Hi All - a set of old English teaspoons I've identified - through Jacksons - to James Barber, George Cattle and William North of York Assume the t is for 1830 although it's not a great match. Duty mark also looks more like a George 111 one than George IV. But then York marking conventions would appe...

Re: Ancien regime spoon?
Hi - thanks to OEL's excellent article on Dutch silver, I have a feeling this spoon might be Dutch, pre Kingdom of Holland. Specifically Nijmegen. Think I can make out the crowned double headed eagle in the second mark. Would appreciate it if a moderator could move it there - many thanks Frank

Re: Help with maker of a shell back spoon
Hi Trev Many thanks and provincial may be a good place to start. Hadn't thought of the Ludewick Beck angle, and it certainly could be possible. Though looking at Weltz all Beck's marks seems to be a lot more irregular and cruder. The LB here nice and crisp with clean serifs. The loops on the B of Be...

Help with maker of a shell back spoon
Hi All - any help appreciated with this shell back tablespoon. The maker's mark is LB and is clear, but can't find any LB in Jacksons that fits the time frame. The rest of the marks are very rubbed. I am assuming it's London, but there are only three marks - the second mark looks to be another set o...

silver and enamel snuff box
Hi All - this very pretty and small silver and enamel snuff box has the marks C Delta R on both the lid and the lip of the box, and the number 16 inside the gilt washed interior. Hoping someone might be able to shed some light - thanks Frank http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/ll197/frankchemaly/enam...
