Hello, this is the Polish silver mark introduced in 1986. The "P" is for the assay office in Poznan. There is no assay office with a "B", so I guess it is a "P", too. Don't know the maker, sorry. Best wishes, Bahner

Hello, this is really a box sold by Kühn (by the way it is >Gebrüder Kühn<, founded in 1860). The pic: http://img1.putfile.com/thumb/2/4411393063.jpg is taken from an undated trade catalogue of Kühn’s (which I date around 1970, give or take a few). The handle is a little different, though. The c...

Hello, this is the city mark of Kassel, Germany. If the letter is an "A", it stands for a production from 1816-20. Maker is J.J. Schaumburg, born ca. 1740, died ca. 1822, active in Kassel since 1789. Best wishes, Bahner

Hello, German silver is an alloy of copper and nickel, brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. German silver does not oxidize, it corrodes if brought into contact with acids. So it reacts differently than real brass. The less nickel German silver contains, the more its colour is like gold. So this is ...

Hello, as Roth is established as the maker, I would like to make a wild guess. First thought that came to mind when I saw the bust was: that looks like German poet Friedrich Schiller. Exactly his profile and his hairdo. 1905 was the 100th anniversary of his death and it was widely celebrated in Germ...

Hello, don't quote me on this, but I believe this is not silver. Berlin maker Jürst & Co. used a similiar mark on his cutlery, made purely from German silver. He also used the "13" on these pieces - obviously to fool buyers. Usually his mark comes with an eagle - but who knows.... ? B...

Hello, this is the Polish mark used between 1963 and 1986. The letter is most likely a "K" for the Krakow assay office. Don't know who the maker is, sorry. Best wishes, Bahner

Hello, on Scandinavian pieces, mostly from the 1960ies onwards, one can often find the designer's monogram, too. As the maker's mark is the first one on the left, I believe this (I rather read this as "A H ") is a designer's monogram. Might be Airi Hänninen, who worked as a designer for T...

Hello, this is Friedmann’s mark. According to the latest research he was active in Vienna 1881 - 1919. Fleischmann’s mark is a little different, the font used in his mark is Antiqua, not Grotesque as in Friedmann’s. Best wishes, Bahner

Hello, it is not possible to exactly ascribe this to a certain maker, as the mark is incomplete. One would have to clearly see the sign between the two letters. The Viennese list of gold- and silversmiths has no match for “J A” with this kind of frame, so I guess it is “J H“. Might be either J. Hobu...

Hello and congrats, stunning pieces ! Stylistically this seems to have been influenced by designs of the Wiener Werkstätten around 1922/28. Hello, I agree this is most likely German, around 1850/70. Several makers used a crowned "13", so without a town mark or maker's mark there is no chance of narrowing this down. The pattern was popular all over Germany (and not only there). Best wishes, Bahner
