Re: C.S. Serving Spoon, Continental?
Hi Maurice, I did look at the mark you referred to and agree it is similar but I think the "C" is a lot narrower near the ends and the "S" looks almost square in the top left hand side on their mark, not yet convinced, perhaps the F-R mark may help throw some light on this one. N...

Re: C.S. Serving Spoon, Continental?
Hi Maurice, I have looked at the link you gave, The CS mark looks similar but a poor match and I feel the maker (1874) is not early enough, its strange to have 2 x CS marks, one with pellets and one without. I would place the spoon circa 1800. I hoped maybe Scottish though as the spoon was part of a s...

C.S. Serving Spoon, Continental?
Hi, Help needed on this large serving/table spoon. This was part of a set with AC Dundee. The spoons matched well and were numbered half like this and half Dundee. I think they are probably not Scottish but as the marks are well struck I hope someone can give a definite attribution. https://db.tt/ky...

George Murray x 2 marks
Hi,
I don't know if this a scarce item or not but would like to share it.
The tongs have both George Murray registered marks on these tongs, one on each arm.
Possibly an apprentice mixing up the stamps ?

Limerick spoon Crest ?
Hi,
I have this William Ward of Limerick Dessert spoon with Dublin assay marks for 1801.
Any ideas on the strange crest ?
Its a new one on me and does not seem to make a very powerful statement.

Re: Provincial salt spoon,unknown mark?
Hi Ben
Thanks for the input,
perhaps Sheehan was using one of his new stamps over some piece of old stock?
seems a possibility anyway.
Looks like the scroll style mark as you mention but still not 100% certain yet.

Re: Provincial salt spoon,unknown mark?
Its certainly possible that it is over stamped, any ideas on a maker if you ignore
the bits that look like part of a crown and just study the shape of the lettering?

Re: Provincial salt spoon,unknown mark?
Hi,
with the naked eye and under a glass the mark seems like JS or possibly JF
I have loaded 2 more pics to see if any better for definition.
Also turned 1 pic 180deg just in case we are reading upside down.

Hope this helps

Re: Provincial salt spoon,unknown mark?
Hi Trev, My first port of call was the hallmark menu list you refer to. I cannot see who you may be are referring to in the lists of makers. I have gone through both the Cork and Limerick marks by Bowen & O'Brien. I cannot see a mark that is the same or even similar in the outline shape. Cheers ...

Hi Trev,
thanks for the info, even though it looks like a dead end now.
Its a nice spoon all the same, even if the maker didn't see fit to put his mark on it.
Cheers Bob

Re: Austria/Hungary? tablespoon
Hi Amena
after straining my eyes through my pocket microscope x 40 magnification,
I feel that it is more likely to be an A as you mentioned rather than a 4
Very hard to make out though.
Perhaps it may help to determine the maker if it is Vienna/Wien
cheers Bob

Austria/Hungary? tablespoon
Hi, This spoon is 21cm long and weighs 52gr. The mark appears to be Austria Dianakopf mark with a small number 4 to the right hand side. Is this correct ? Any ideas on the maker ? Looks to be TR although poorly stamped. A nicely balanced spoon which has the feel of a lower grade of silver. http://db...

Hi Oel,
Thanks for the info, looks likely to be Meissen then,as a strong manufacturing link there.
The item may possibly have been a wedding gift with 2 love birds on the handle.
It may just be the old romantic in me though !
Cheers Bob

Augsburg Cake Server Handle ?
Hi, I have had this pretty cake server for years, its made by Johann Christoph Drentwett with Augsburg 1761-63 marks. While this is not exactly a silver question,I would like any opinions on the handle. What it is made of and who were the makers? Did Drentwett use a particular manufacturer or were th...

Hi, I would like to share this mark with fellow forum members. The fork is from a straight set of 12 and the mark looks from the same group of makers as Fig7 in the back of Richard Turner's Directory of Scottish Provincial book.Although 2 x "b" and only 1 Thistle mark.(Richard's has 1 x &q...
