Re: 18th century? Scandinavian Dog Nose Spoon

This is no way Scandinavian. I dont know where we can put this. But: The Shaft dog nose is in my oppinion early 1700 hundreds The laf - rest of spoon is in my oppinion 1600 dreds. Therefor we have an older style (laf) paired with the newer shaft. That calls for a very traditional smith. The zig zag ...

The law of the German half moon and crown was implemented in 1884. This spoon is from an earlier period.
Sure the type is before --- but it could also be after. They did not produce all at one year, so the manufacture could also be as late as 19XX

the marks look swedish, but look for a mark with 3 crowns. Without that mark this is not silver but plated.

Re: Danish Date Marks Project

This information is general. The silver from Denmark had an undefined origin. The trade knew that the F - for guardein Fabritius - represented fine silver. Not because the silversmits where exectional, but because there was a lot of silver from that period and the style/form was appresiated. Older s...

Re: Who is the maker of this Danish spoon?

I would say its german and marked with the 2 danish marks after import.
The lion inside the (possible) C with an M on top - is fahr from typpical danish.
So import and sold as a silver spoon with silver marks - thats my guess.

Re: Help with maker and age

Preussen conversion is not the right one either. Wiki quate: In August 1714, George Elector of Hanover, Duke of Brunswick–Lüneburg (King George I) ascended to the British throne. Between then and 1866, when the town became Prussian during the Austro-Prussian War as part of the province of Hanover, C...

Re: Help with maker and age

I think you weigt is incorrect. The correct weight is 352,9 gram. The case is that silver = money. And items was used. And treasured. But they also represented value. Therefor the silver smith made a note on the item. He wrote the weight in lod. Lod was the mesurement. 1 lod = 14,7 gram and 24 lod =...

Re: Help with Danish spoon

1. the F guardein was not a silversmith
2. silver content i Denmark 830 - 826 norwegian standard
3. 13,5 danish standard i 1840ties Norwegian 13,1/3

4. the standard was in lod = 16/16 was pure silver the 1000/1000 standard is around 1900

so - no way that your spoon is that old

Re: Help with Danish spoon

in my opinion its from norway approx 1880-1920 826 s + the pattern cry norway. We dont tak value at this page. But as a curiosum, the coin - in case that it was not made into a spoon would (in this quality) have a collector value. Catalog value of 300 EURO. Many coins was around 1900 put into silver...
