Re: Mark for foreign objects?
Hello The last time you posted this item, it was lost when there were upgrades to the platform, so information was lost. Let me state again that in my opinion this tastevin is a fake. I’ve mentioned the reasons why: a damaged silver standard punch and now we see the punch isn’t placed on the rim nea...

Re: Help needed with marks on spectacles
Hello
You have a French maker’s mark in a lozenge-shaped reserve for Crouvezier, and a French hare-head guarantee mark used 1819-1838. See below for full information:

Re: French tastevin
Hello
Your tastevin has fantasy marks that are meant to mimic genuine marks. They are in a jumble and stamped incorrectly. This is not an authentic object.
Regards.

Re: Paris 1838
Based on the original poster’s recent questions and the specialty of the maker, I’d hazard an informed guess that the object shown is the thumb piece of a tastevin (wine taster).

Re: Paris 1838
Hello The maker of your item is César Tonnelier, a manufacturing silversmith from a long line of makers. César was the successor of Théodore Tonnelier, and was succeeded by Paul Tonnelier who eventually was taken over by Olier & Caron. César first registered a mark 21 March 1845, again 15 March ...

Re: French tastevin departement Orlean
Hello again. While I understand that you really wish your tastevin to be genuine, you can’t simply make the marks fit your desires. The French marking system is quite precise. The crowned R is not a date letter mark, and the crowned T doesn’t correspond to the time period of the charge mark. Yes, th...

Re: French tastevin departement Orlean
Hello Yes, the pre-Revolutionary French marking system can be confusing. Here is a brief overview of how the system worked: -Silversmith marked the object with his personal mark upon completion -Silversmith takes the object to the maison commune (guild) to be tested for silver content. If the object...

Re: French tastevin departement Orlean
Hello I don’t see concordance between the marks on your tastevin. As you note, the crowned R appears to be the charge mark for Orléans 1775-1781. The crowned T is presumably the date letter (poinçon de jurande). However in the cycle of date letters for Orléans, T was used in 1700 and 1746, but not d...

Re: French plate, maker unrecognized
Hello Georg Thank you for your clear photos, for showing all the marks, and for showing the entire object. You have read the guarantee mark and the silver standard mark for Paris, 1798-1809. The maker’s mark in a lozenge-shaped reserve is for Pierre Lagu, hollowware maker (la grosserie), working at ...

Re: Paris Table spoon 1783-1789
Hello I believe the maker of your spoon in the Filet or Thread pattern was Louis Julien Anthiaume, who registered his mark on 6 September 1779, initials LJA, symbol a royal baton (un bâton royal). Louis Julien was sponsored by his father, the maker Jacques Anthiaume. Father and son worked together a...

@Aguest
After 1838 the guarantee and silver standard marks were combined into the Minerva head mark. If the item was made in the provinces, you’ll see a symbol, called un différent, under Minerva’s chin representing the mint where the item was stamped.
Hope this helps.

Re: Need Help Identifying Maker's Mark
Hello
Dictionaries of 19th C French maker’s marks list makers by first initial. The first initial of the mark on your object is worn or poorly stamped. Is there no other maker’s mark that could give us a better image?
Regards.

Re: spoon
Your spoon was made between 1819-1838 of 800 standard silver in the French provinces, as seen by the third mark. To determine the maker, you’d need to know where to begin to look. The last mark in an oval reserve is the guarantee mark which would tell you the place of manufacture. However the mark i...
