Question for Dad

On a P. Ovtschinnikov spoon´s stem is the following mark:

Image

Is this the crippled assay mark PL # 2016 (1873-1877)?
Stand the BC mark for Viktor Savinsky (1859-1894) or is it from the spoon maker BC Semenov Wasilij?

Thank you for your time.

Re: Authentic or fake Faberge? Cigarette Case

How can you tell the real thing from the fakes? Well, this can be either very simple or very complicated. A lot depends upon how good the fake is. Almost everyone has heard of the fabled "Fabergé Eggs"….fantastic gifts given at Easter time by the Czar to his wife and mother. What many peop...

Re: Authentic or fake Faberge? Cigarette Case

@ Qrt.S: I can only hope that you have the permission to answer in the name of Ms. Tillander-Godenhielm and reveal her firm statement about this cigarette case and the marks! She must know better - I am sure. @Dad: Thank you for your knowing and correct answers. People who looked long enough into th...

Re: Authentic or fake Faberge? Cigarette Case

agphile Thanks for enlighten me! Enlish is not my first language - so it escaped me total that the used words could be ambiguous. I think I have now cleared it up what I really wanted to say. It is always difficult to not only write in an other language - you have to think in this language too - tha...

Qrt.S -
please stay on topic and stop your attacks. The words "experience"and "expertise" sound similar - but have a different meanig. Let someone explain it to you.

Re: Authentic or fake Faberge? Cigarette Case

Dad - thank you for your objective and in-depth knowledge! It is well known and undisputed that the Moscow branch of Fabergé worked with subcontractors - later the stamps of these companies have been removed - and the own marks added. I can only repeat what also is long known, that in Moscow mostly ...

Re: Authentic or fake Faberge? Cigarette Case

I no longer understand the meaning of this endless, fruitless discussion. My point of view and your position has been sufficiently explained - more is probably not to say! For further questions please contact the internationally undisputed Fabergé expert Géza von Habsburg. Last word: if you can make...

Re: Authentic or fake Faberge? Cigarette Case

Géza von Habsburg (Author of the book) describes this HB as HW - thinking of H. Wigström? But Wigström never marked as HB - as far as I know. I think it is perhaps N. Bobir from St. Petersburg with a new punch for Moscow....??? The "mystery" mark (red arrow) is the French import mark (swan).

Re: Authentic or fake Faberge? Cigarette Case

Now there is a compromise showing up: In your opinion it first was a total fake, later it is an original but the marks are faked. You did not support that with any proofs. At least you moved. In my opinion it is a total original, supported by several photos and text. People who collect/own Fabergé o...

What do the "experts" explain now? Maybe the OP had thrown the case in the trash... http://i63.tinypic.com/3355izd.jpg http://i64.tinypic.com/xfds82.jpg http://i63.tinypic.com/210lz15.jpg http://i66.tinypic.com/15pst9l.jpg
