Re: Chinese silver pickle dish mark?
Welcome to the Forum. The marks are Chinese, but the style is, in my opinion, closer to Kutch or Indian silver. Indeed, it looks like nearly identical to the pierced pattern of the letter rack and small tray discussed in this post, although in this case without the beaded border: http://www.925-1000...

Re: Japanese silver cup, need help with maker.
The maker is Muramatsu. Currently, I have no information on this maker, but I would guess that the cups are from the 1920s or 1930s. When they were new, they would have come in a wooden box that might have included details about the maker and perhaps the date of their purchase or their presentation ...

Re: Oriental Letter Opener Mystery Mark Silver 1000
Welcome to the Forum. From the design and the marks, it does not look to be of Asian origin, so most likely it is indeed "Oriental." Another possibility is that it was produced in a former colony, like Hong Kong, exclusively for the tourist trade. As it is an inherited piece, family histor...

Re: Does any one know is this Russian or Middle eastern?
I agree that the marks are almost certainly Arabic, but I will leave it to someone more knowledgeable to make a definite identification.
Certainly not Russian marks.

Not very clear in the photo, but looks like the Swiss Helvetia mark for 18k (750) in use from 1933.

Re: need help identifying card box with MDL mark
Welcome to the Forum.
To my eye, the card case looks like yogya silver, but I know of no maker with the mark MDL or MOL.
There is a good section on yogya silver here:
http://www.925-1000.com/a_yogya.html
Let's see what others say. I would defer to Oel on this.

Many thanks, Trev.
I am relieved to know that Asian characters will eventually return to the site. In the meanwhile, I will refrain from including them in my posts.
Cheers

Re: 2015 "Software" Changes "Problems"
Speaking of software problems, the crumbling of apostrophes and commas into what appears to be ASCII code is nothing compared to the loss of Asian characters. As I am not experiencing this problem with any other web pages, I believe this is not a problem confined locally to my computer, but must be ...

Tu Mao Xing (can also be transliterated Tu Mao Hsing), active in Jiujang Province ca 1880 to 1930. Known mark uses only Chinese characters and no alphabet: a narrow banner with Jiujang written horizontally at the head and Tu Mao Xing written vertically beneath. http://www.925-1000.com/td/f/Far_East/...

Re: Chinese Beaker/Cup ID please
Belatedly, that appears to be the mark of Tu Mao Xing (can also be transliterated Tu Mao Hsing), active in Jiujang Province ca 1880 to 1930. An article by Adrien von Ferscht states that in the recent past, Tu Mao Xing's name has been incorrectly transcribed as Kan Mao Xing, but evidently no such mak...

Re: Help please unusual bowl sun and triangle sterling mark
I do not think this is a Japanese bowl. The flared rim and the applied scroll legs look too stylized, like the signature of an individual artisan, rather than the mostly molded and mass-produced Japanese “sterling”-marked silver that was marketed primarily to the tourist trade in the immediate postw...

Hello Krisztián, I certainly agree with you. Although the retailer's mark is already listed in the CES section, it is helpful for everyone interested in CES to see a well-marked piece like this. The full set of British import marks provide a great deal of new information. Looking forward to your fut...

Re: Oriental snuff box - help identifying hallmark needed
Welcome to the Forum. While I am sure that no intentional slight is implied by using "Oriental," this is a word that has no real linguistic equivalent in the regions it is supposed to refer to. The many different peoples of the Middle East or Asia have ever applied such a monolithic, broad...

Re: Cuff Bracelet with Turquoise and Coral
I agree with Cheryl, it looks like Tibetan or Nepalese work. It is hard to say from the photos, but if the three faint marks appear directly behind the circle of small reddish stones, then they are not maker's mark or metal standard marks, but simply impressions left by setting the stones. Hello Krisztián, It's nice to see you posting down here in the East Asian section for a change. The mark looks like WH. If so, that's Wang Hing and Co of Hong Kong, as listed in the CES section of World Hallmarks: http://www.925-1000.com/chinex_04.html#M It seems to be missing its original glass or ...

Re: Unidentified mark silver-plate vase
Many thanks for updating this thread and providing a positive ID. With such a clear explanation, the yacht looks obvious. This Y-in-Yacht mark definitely dates from post-WWII, as it has nothing to do with the company's name or history. I imagine it was designed to match up the Y of Yamatogumi with s...

Yamatogumi Yamatogumi was originally founded in 1910 by ITO Masajiro 伊藤政治郎 as the Ito Silverplate Factory 伊藤メッキ工場 and located in Mukojima, Sumida Ward, Tokyo. The factory moved to the Honjo area of Tokyo in the early 1920s, probably following the 1923 earthquake. Became Yamatogumi Factory 大和組工場 ar...
