Re: How to clean/polish silver properly

Hi Zolotnik, Are you able to give any advice on cleaning items such as a gilded cloisonné enamel cigarette case... As you know the surface is not smooth on an object like this as it is with the enamel case you showed. Should the same method be followed with more care to get into all the little crev...

Re: Two pairs of Clausonné spoons.

There are no items found made in the 26 artel. That is why both Zolotnik and piette are so sceptical but I hopeful. Its existence is only mentioned in literature. Here you have the best information and close to almost all there is regarding the artels http://www.silvercollection.it/dictionaryARTELS...

Re: Can you identify a SCH.P mark please? Christie's could n

Hi all, Sorry to dig up an old thread but I thought I should make a contribution - I was fortunate enough to attend the viewing of this auction and so I was actually able to see the aforementioned objects in person and get a good look at them myself. Neither the 'Klingert' Cigarette case or the 'Sal...

Re: Two pairs of Clausonné spoons.

I agree with Zolotnik about the '26A' spoons, but disagree about the other two spoons. I don't think they look so good and would be inclined to believe that they are not so old either. I have seen a number of similar spoons with this 'E0' mark in auctions, all of which were contemporary. Regards, Pi...

Scottish Ladle - Edinburgh or Provincial?

I have a small silver ladle (6" length) and I am unsure as to whether it is from Edinburgh or is provincial. It is hallmarked as shown with a George III mark, the thistle mark and a makers mark which appears to be 'RK' although no date letter or Edinburgh town mark. I am wondering if it is poss...

Re: The Russian spoons

Hi all, I have to agree with Zolotnik here - before Zolotnik responded with his most recent post I went to check the picture you were referring to in my own copy of this book. If you read the description of figure 74 closely, you will note that it describes all the other objects in that image as bei...

Re: The Russian spoons

Hi Piette While I had the opportunity to study carefully some “nice” GK fakes, even with 6-7 colors. In connection with this spoon, indeed we have only 5 colors, but what you can expect to find on a small coffee spoon? I’m hundred percent sure ... Regards, Asti Hi Asti, I must admit, it is a very n...

Re: The Russian spoons

Hello Asti, Forgive me if I am wrong, but your Klingert spoon looks a little dubious to me. Klingert was a great master known for his excellent enamelling work and beautiful designs - he almost always used 6-8 different colours of enamel on his objects in contrast to the use of 4-5 colours on your s...

Re: Is it Fake or Not? 4

Hello Smokanabeach,
The reason for the high number of unknown makers of Russian silver is because around the time of the Revolution, so many important papers and documents were 'taking up space' and so as a result they were just burned, as they were regarded as unimportant at the time.

Re: The Russian spoons

Hello all, I can't compete with Zolotnik or Asti, but here are my two cents! Cloisonne & Champleve enamel tea spoon by Pyotr Milyukov, Moscow 1882-1898. http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj239/ammolithmine/011-1.jpg Niello decorated tea spoon depicting The Spasskaya Tower in Moscow by D. P. Nik...

Re: Small Russian Tea Glass Holder - Karl Fend?

Hi Piette Looking just to the engravings quality seems to be Fend, maybe worked with a little more care from what I've seen in the past. For this reason I will say : It’s a Fend+ , but never the another К.Ф Regards, Asti Hello Asti, Thank you for confirming this. When I bought it, I knew it would...

Small Russian Tea Glass Holder - Karl Fend?

Good afternoon all, I have a question about an object of mine which I acquired a few months ago. It is a solid silver tea glass holder (podstakannak? smaller than the usual size...) and it is engraved, and has a diamond & sapphire set twin headed imperial eagle on the front. The diamonds and sap...
