Gmund or Austro Hungarian ?

Hi All. I have 2 similar beakers which appear to have hallmarks for both Gmund and the old Austro Hungarian Empire. The Gmund mark is the unicorn head facing left and the Austro Hungarian mark is a co-joined VR which I think may be a duty mark. Both beakers are stamped with the 13 standard mark and ...

Re: 18th Century snuff box

Many thanks Wolfgang. I have followed up on your comments and have indeed found the mark for Jean Malquis le Quin - also another mark for him registered in1735. But have you any suggestions on what the other marks on the box are? Thanks again.

18th Century snuff box

Hi all. Would be grateful for any information on this snuff box, which appears to be French and mid 18th century. It is quite large (about 8cm across and weighing 82 grams). There are 3 sets of hallmarks struck 3 times, one on the inside base, once on the inside of the cover and once on an inside wa...

Leeuwarden ?

Hi all. Can anyone help identify town, date and maker of this tablespoon. The marks indicate Leeuwarden, but I may well be wrong. The back of the bowl is engraved : Bakkers Gilde and Lepel 1783. And also a crest, presumably of the Bakkers Gilde. It is 20cm long. As always with Dutch spoons I am a li...

No other marks. Many thanks John http://i66.tinypic.com/1zr0xnb.jpg http://i64.tinypic.com/2z671xf.j...

Re: 18th Century Swedish chamber candlestick

Thank you AG - much appreciated, and thanks too for the webpage. I will check the cost of having it professionally repaired - maybe too expensive! Best regards John

18th Century Swedish chamber candlestick

Hi All. Can anyone help identify when, where and by who this chamber stick was made. I believe it to be from Sweden as it has the three crown mark. The diameter of the dish is about 13 cm. It weighs 157 grams. It unfortunately has some significant repairs/damage where the handle joins the dish. Woul...

Date of Dutch silver pomander vase

Hello All. Can anyone help establish the date of this openwork vase? It is marked for 2nd standard Dutch silver, makers mark R below a hammer (ST Reitsma?), a key stamp, and a capital letter T (not in a shield). There is another mark (possibly a date letter) partly obscured by the key. Would be grat...

Date of Dutch Table Spoon

Hi All. I think this spoon may have been made in Leiden by Jan Ultzen. But can anyone (OEL?) confirm the date? Many thanks John

Re: Early European spoon ?

Hi Theo. After another look at the maker's mark it would seem that it consists of 3 vertical lines which are crossed in the middle by a horizintal line. There is clearly more to the mark above what can be seen but this has been largly covered by silver solder when repaired. What looks like a C at th...

Early European spoon ?

Hi - can anyone help identify where and when this spoon was made. My initial thoughts when I aquired it (without any references) was that it might be Scandinavian, but I am now more inclined to think it may be from East Germany or the Baltic region. It is hallmarked on the back of the bowl with an e...

Many thanks Hose. It seems there were a number of Kreibergs working in Nykobing from early 19th century. John
