thank you

Hi Pat,

thanks for your quick reply! I looked at the mark very closely again, and it does have some rolled scroll mark the sphinx is seated on, so maybe that's a variation on the John Batt & Co mark. thank you!

thanks so much, and could a simple sphinx just mean England?

Hi Pat, Well that's a relief, because I want to give this piece to a friend for Christmas, but not if it's not even silverplate. But the sphinx imprint has nothing below or around it to identify it---no initials, or other marks. I thought maybe it simply meant made in England. Is that possible ...

Sheffield Reproduction - silverplate???

I have a serving piece with the imprint of a seated sphinx and the words "Shefflied Reproduction". I don't see any other hallmark on it. Could this just be some other kind of metal in a Sheffield pattern? Or if it has the seated sphinx, does that mean it IS in fact silverplate? thanks for your help ...

thank you!

Dear Pat,

You are exactly right, now that I took a close look at the image. Three stars in a clover leaf. According to the hallmark listings, it says that Barker Bros merged and became Ellis-Barker Silver co in 1931. Does that mean the piece I have dates to some time before 1931???

thanks so much ...

need help identifying a British silverplate mark

Hi there, I have a piece marked EP on one side of an image, and BM on the other side. The image is 3 stars set inside a shamrock pattern. Below that is says Made in England, and below that an R. Does anybody know what company used that 3 star in a shamrock hallmark??? thanks so much.

Thank you so much!

Pat,

that is exactly the image at the bottom of the third example from Benedict Proctor. And it also says English design, as the sample does on the link you gave me. Do you have idea what the number 1756 below the imprint might be?

you have helped me tremendously. thank you so much, Bonnie

Aladdin's Lamp mark - "English Design"

This item is Hand Chased and it says "Sheffield Reproduction" on the bottom with the number 1756. Above it is an image of an Aladdin's Lamp, with the initials B P above it. Does anyone know where and when this was made? or what company used this Aladdin's Lamp symbol? I have a photo, but don't know ...
