A F Towle Sterling or Towle Silversmiths & Pattern

In 2007 I was fortunate to acquire this lovely set at a local estate sale in Walla Walla, Washington. The gentleman was liquidating his Great Aunt's estate. I purchased all of her souvenir spoons and several other beautiful sterling flatware. I have been able to identify and date all of the items ex...

John Edwards, Silversmith

In searching through the American Makers' Marks, I was unable to locate any reference to John Edwards, Silversmith. I was reading about him in the enclosed article which includes copies of his marks. According to the article, he was one of our earliest silversmiths. I am not sure what kind of docume...

Thank you all so very much! I think this is the neatest group of people to share your expertise with us newbies. C B & W Sterling Mark on Bon Bon Server (?)

I have acquired several STERLING pieces from an estate. I was able to identify some of them very clearly and they dated in the late 1800's. I believe this piece also should be in the same time period but I cannot find any thing on the Maker to help me date it. Nor have I been able to find the patter...

Interpretation

So, if I am interpreting the article correctly, it would appear that the 100 indicates a high density of silverplating because the souvenir style of spoons were most likely made in smaller lots or their small size allowed the silver to settle on the spoons in a greater density? In any case, it appea...

non-silver spoons/forks marked "Italy"

Don't know if this would be helpful, but here are a couple of places that actually are discussing italian items similar to your images. It might point you in the right direction if nothing else. the first two are for an online museum: http://www.geocities.com/rodeodrive/6232/index.html#pages" o...

could it be another set of eyes.....

Just a thought - but it looks more like an anchor than a J to me and the next one could be an R instead of a B
as in Anchor R Star
Dont know what that would indicate.... but that is what i see.

What does it mean when Silver is marked simply "100&quo

My question is actually more general than specific. I have several souvenir spoons that have number marks instead of a symbol or character hallmark and I understand the three digit codes like 800 900 and 925. I also understand that "40 gr" or "90 gr" indicates the quality of Silv...

Squirrel Hallmark - Swiss? Enameling type?

I have what I believe to be a Swiss hallmark on a spoon with an interestingly unique enameling(?) of a rose on the finial. I don't know what type of enameling it is but it seems to be quite different from other enameled spoons in that there is a silver outline of the flower and then the colored enam...

Is this American or English?

I have a Bon Bon or Nut Spoon that is clearly marked: STERLING. Yet it has what appears to be English Hallmarks. It shows the anchor (for Birmingham?) Then a small "m" in a "shield" (for 1911") Then it has the Lion Passant http://www.doortothenet.com/MISCELLANEOUS/StStrB-191...

Bruce Sterling or Beau Sterling? are they related?

I have acquired a Lovely little Souvenir Spoon that is marked: "BRUCE STERLING". It is commemorating Jekyll Island, GA. It was delivered to me in a box that says: "Beau Sterling Silver" I think I have found some information on Beau, I believe that may be the Beaucraft Company who...

(SYMBOL) THEN HH 90 HOLLAND - Help Identifying Maker & D

I have a nice Souvenir spoon depicting the American Bi-Centennial. I wonder if anyone could help me with the Maker and Date. I also don't know what the 90 means. I'm guessing it has something to do with the quality of the Silver or Silverplate(?) Does the HOLLAND mean it was made in Holland, or is i...

Sterling Souvenir Spoon Maybe Charles M Robbins?

I have a California Sterling Souvenir spoon. It is clearly marked Sterling, but the hallmark is quite small and I am having difficulty getting a good picture of it. It is in the shape of a diamond with characters smooshed together. They look like EK or ER. I have searched the databases and cannot fi...

Solid Egyptian Silver

I have a nice old Sugar spoon with the markings of a triangular symbol followed by the words (all caps) "SOLID EGYPTIAN SILVER" followed by the triangular symbol. I can't tell if it might be the hallmark listed first on the unidentified marks page as being on a "Handwrought A&C bo...

Cuevee Silver-warranted

So, what exactly does Silver warranted mean? Is it a degree of Silver plating like 40gr or what. Also if Quaker Valley Mfg made this c 1900, do we know when they stopped making Cuevee silver warranted? I have photos of this mark to add. Should they go on this thread or should I add a new thread that...

E. J. Towle Mfg Company.

I have been researching a Sterling Souvenir spoon from my Mother-In-Law's collection and I finally found a hallmark that is almost identical posted on another website. (I don't know if I am allowed to say where I found it, so I won't. If someone wants to ask me, I can e-mail the information.) The on...
