Re: Little Dutch box - confusing marks

Hi Jo, your loderein box is copy of a popular model of the 18th century. An antique Dutch silver lodereindoosje. The english translation would be vinaigrette, pomander of scent box. The box is in the form of an armoire (kabinet) in traditional shape, with domed lid and shaped doors, decorated with s...

Re: William & Mary Geboortelepel

Your welcome and I have better information. The inscription reads: Klaaske Waters Van Der Pol 1768 . The name and family crest are fantasy and probably engraved 19th/early 20th century. If the spoon itself is much older is hard to tell, probably not 18th century. Will be home later today when I will...

Re: William & Mary Geboortelepel

Hi, In Dutch, we call this a zilveren Friese sierlepel or silver Frisian ornamental spoon or silver commemorative spoon. The engraving could read: Jan van (faded/rubbed) der Pol 1768 Klaaske Waters . Klaaske is a Frisian girl’s name. Perhaps Jan van der Pol married Klaaske Waters in 1768. 18th Centu...

Re: Seven teaspoons - Arnhem? What period?

Hi, It is Lübeck,we are not sure who is the maker. The reference book of Lücbecker Silber , B.+M. Kommer, 1978 , does not show this makersmark. There are 8 makers with Name R... but only Franz Joachim Riesmann (MZ: (FI/R) , M: 1814-1826) was working in the time about 1824. Gratitude; Theoderich

Re: small oval box with medevil battle scene ,no marks?

Hi Guido, if you look carefully at my box, made by Moerkerk. Top left you will notice the same three crosses. Just part of the scene, to indicate Amsterdam, put in by the maker/ making process.

Re: small oval box with medevil battle scene ,no marks?

Hi Guido, For Dutch hallmarks, including sword mark see: http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=32028 Without official hallmarks I should say the box is made out of white metal, probably silver and a silver test could reveal more. http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=...
