Re: Silver candle, English? London?

Hi, it could be Hanau style pseudo marks. For example the crown mark, this type of crown is characteristic of J.D. Schleissner and Söhne, but could also have been used by other Hanau silversmiths. See; https://www.925-1000.com/Fgerman_hanau_marks_01.html Your image nr.8 shows the Dutch standard mark...

Re: Sazikov marking

The absence of genuine Russian hallmarks. In compliance with British law, the British fine art trade uses the term "white metal" in auction catalogues to describe foreign silver items which do not carry British Assay Office hallmarks, but which are nonetheless understood to be silver and a...

Re: Sazikov marking

Hi Juke, Indeed there is an interest in fake Russian silver with "nice " pseudo marks. In 2015 I showed, during a forum discussion about Russian silver Fake or Fortune, this page from a Bonhams auction catalogue. Amazing, and some day these sold fakes will return to the trade with or witho...

Re: Sazikov marking

This one has been offered at a Dutch auction in 2022 Description Russian silver inkwell, 84 zolotnik, 875/000, standing round model placed on 4 oval feet. On the side of the inkwell, 2 rats with tools climb the pot. On the front of the pot is a soldered element of a double-headed eagle with crown an...

Re: Sazikov marking

Hi Juke, is it an inkwell or? The marks seem fake to me. What could be the meaning of the mean looking dressed and armed rats. I've seen rats like this before on counterfeit Russian silver.

Hi, correction my not so impressing knowledge😏
Amena is right it appears to be the mark of Alignani, it also explains the absence of the national German silver mark, crescent moon and crown.

Lion rampant for Gebrüder Deyhle, Schwäbisch Gmünd.

According to this Deyhle mark, the item dates from the period between 1886 and around 1920. After that, the lion was no longer shown in the frame

Re: Crowned V Mark on Spoon. Maker not Dutch?

Hi Fishless, Crowned V for large items; duty mark for foreign and other untaxed objects used 1814-1893. This duty mark does not give any guarantee of a precious metal standard of fineness. This mark has been used on metal with a 250 minimum silver content as a duty mark. This mark was destined for a...

Re: Please help to identify the maker's mark of the set of Norwegian Bergen spoons.

In my opinion, these spoons are in the naturalic (revival) rococo style. The marks are not convincing.

Silver Ear-iron https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oorijzer The Groningen ear-iron is difficult to distinguish from the Frisian. The Groninger is a bit narrower, and it leaves the top of the head uncovered. The helmet-shaped ear-iron, made of thin silver, consists of two contiguous halves that can be at...
