Re: Could do with some help on this Persian/Iranian Box

Hello again Upon closer examination the name could be سراگيان or Seragian (the K and G letters in Persian are quite similar) Also have found the other word - جهرمی or Jahrami (or Jahromi) See the last image at the bottom of this National Museum of Scotland link https://www.nms.ac.uk/explore-our-coll...

Re: Could do with some help on this Persian/Iranian Box

Hello SilverK Above the 84 it looks like سرآکيان Sirakian. This is a family name. I am not 100% sure on this point but it is definitely a name which ends in "rakian" I don't understand the word beside ۷۴ in the other stamp In any event, neither say Isfahan - although that does not mean the...

Re: Unknown Language & Meaning

Hello tux

This is Hebrew script but I can't translate.

If you search a pair of lions holding Torah scrolls under a canopy and a crown, you will likely find information about the imagery

Hope this helps

Re: Tabriz/Persian Silverwork, late 1960s

This is a very old post and the photos have been deleted but I think it worth commenting In the marketplace, there are a number of Iranian pieces stamped VIGE with some speculation that this is a maker's name The word is ويژه which could be transcribed in Roman script as vige or vigeh. A standard tr...

Re: Silver vase persia, trouble identifying

Hello

The script appears to be برادران برداگي

The first word is baradaran (brothers) but the second would be transcribed in Roman script as bardagi. This is likely a family name so Bardagi Brothers or something similar.

Re: Help with attribution of oriental box (No.2)

Thank you Alex Definitely Isfahan. In one of your images we can find the missing letters of the city name اصفهان . The initial "alef" is the vertical line below the letters and the final "nun" is the "bowl with a dot" above the letters. One word in the "arc" i...

Re: Help with attribution of oriental box (No.2)

Hello Alex I am not sure what "star" refers to The image which you posted with the script is upside down If you invert it then the top portion (the arc) has script which is Persian but only a couple pf letters are clear and I don't know what it says The lower portion (not sure how to descr...

Re: Sudanese Tray from 1935

Hello Jannie Correct. There is almost no information available about Sudanese silverwork. I too find several similar pieces on the web dating between 1922 and 1950. Saad Al Jadir, in his book Arabic and Islamic Silver (Stacey International 1981) says that Sudanese work is characterized by calligraph...

Re: Help with attribution of oriental box (No.2)

Hello

Looks Persian

The text is upside down but, if you flip it, the lower word looks like اصفهان (Isfahan) with the first and last letters missing.

The type of script also looks Persian although I can't make out particular words

Re: 6x Persian - Iran? Cup

There are at least two words above the 84 but the second one (on the left) is more or less rubbed out The dots are all parts of different letters. The word which we see is صنعطي sanatiy. The translation is "industrial" but I think it can also refer to craft I am not aware that this is a Pe...

The letters may be the Greek Σ Π (sigma and pi). If so, the the image is upside down.

Hello Jannie In the inner circle it reads "mabrouk" مبروك which means "blessed/blessings" or "congratulations" and 1935 ١٩٣٥ In the outer circle it reads "mabrouk alaik - shughghal fi omdurman" مبروك عليك شغّل في ام دورمان. I think a reasonable translation wou...
