Hester Bateman Teapot
Thank you Nigel. You make me feel better about my purchase!! And, if, as Buckler contends, her true strenfth was marketing, it is amazing that her marketing seems to still be having effect!! Hester Bateman's work still demands a very good price in the marketplace!! Especially in the USA. Thank you ...

buckler,
Thank you very much! I sincerely appreciate the education. You're correct - Americans do think of that poor widow-lady slaving away in her cottage foundry!! I'm fairly new to silver collecting, but I wasn't quite that naive. However, I did not know that she had quite so large an operation ...

Hester Bateman Teapot
The design of this teapot seems consistent with other Bateman pots of the time. The marks are clear and are consistent with 2 other Hester Bateman marks that I’ve seen on other websites. However, Bateman seems to have had numerous different marks. But, these marks show no sign of being inlayed or ...

Miles,
I'm concerned that all the marks discussed show M's with vertical strokes and a point that ends above the bottom of the letter. Your mark shows definitely sloped sides on the M and a point that ends at the bottom. This causes me to think that we may be looking at your mark upside down. What ...

Overstrike of Original Maker's Mark
Here is another overstrike example from Thomas Ollivant (Olliphant??) These 3 photos from different angles of the same mark come from a Cream Jug that I THINK was made by Peter and Ann Bateman - although it could be Peter & Jonathan. I believe I can clearly see the top of the PB above the TO mark ...

Help with possible Bateman Mark on 1799 Cream Jug?
This 5 ½” tall Cream Jug has marks consistent with 1799 date, but I cannot identify the Maker’s Mark. The Mark was tough to photograph, but I’ve provided 2 photos in hope of showing it clearly by seeing both photos. It is clearly an “AB over WB”. Given the date, and the style of the letters in the ...

Help Date Frank M. Whiting 15” Sterling Vase?
I believe the Mark shows the Vase to be made by Frank M. Whiting & Co. of North Attleboro, Mass. Most sources say that the Mark was only used by Frank M. Whiting from 1896 through the company’s end in 1940 (although another source says it ended in 1924?). I do not know what the numbers below the ...
