Re: Maker's Mark / General thoughts 1753 Snuffer Tray

Thank you all very much for the help. I went through the London makers’ mark list, and found about 4 candidates (John Harvey, James Morrison, John Payne, Thomas Whipham). Admittedly I have not yet compared against the Grimwade book. However, looking online at Simon Jouet marks, it seems like he is t...

Maker's Mark / General thoughts 1753 Snuffer Tray

I understand this to be a snuffer tray with a London assay mark and date letter of 1753. On the reverse underside I see what appear to be a sterling mark as well as a maker’s mark, which unfortunately, appears slightly damaged. It looks like the maker’s mark had a shield-like outside design. Also cu...

Sifter spoon with rampant beast and unclear maker mark

Recently came across this 6” spoon. In addition to an engraved rampant beast on the top of the handle, there is what appears to be a maker’s mark on the reverse, which unfortunately is not clear. The second letter appears to be W, but the first letter I cannot make out. Reviewing the 925 website, I ...

TOCH silver pitcher date marks - Austria/Hungary

Hello everyone, I am looking for information about this silver pitcher stamped TOCH. My understanding is that the firm operated in both the late 19th and early 20th century in Austria-Hungary and subsequently Austria and Hungary. I think the mark indicates 1922-1937 Hungary, but I have seen other ma...

Re: 1754 London (?)

Phil,

Thanks for the welcome and help. Weight is about 56.5 grams and length across is about 3 and 1/8 inches. There are also engraved initials M.E.W.W. on the bottom. The bottom appears to be solid.

Many thanks.

Re: 1754 London (?)

Sorry All - hit send button before finishing post - I believe this dish has a London assay mark and 1754 date letter - unfortunately a bit worn. If these aspects are correct, I would be curious to know if anyone has a thought on the maker - first letter appears to perhaps be a stylized E? Many thank...
