Thank you both for the comments - really interesting. I presume there's no question about the date being 1927 then.,just before the company was wound up (no watch pun intended!)

Maker's mark "J*W" and date mark on imported Glasgow watch

Hi, I have a Glasgow imported watch case that I am trying to confirm the maker's mark and date for. I have done some research and the most likely candidates are James Weir and 1927 but I cannot find an exact match for the style of the maker's mark, and the plain oval surround of the 'e' date mark do...

Great. Glad the images were of use. My main interest in silver is as used in photography, especially daguerreotypes, so I especially appreciate the existence of forums like this one when I have questions outside my own normal area of expertise.

Thanks for such a quick reply. I just checked a few other items from Thomas Millington online and it certainly looks a good match. Oh well, that's my dad Thomas Morley's Christmas present out of the window.

Unidentified maker "T.M", Birmingham 1826

Hi, I have a silver caddy spoon that is clearly Birmingham, 1826, but I am trying to get confirmation of the maker. I had thought it could be Thomas Morley - this forum post state that his stamp "had a pellet between the T and M" which seems to match well, but the Grimwade biography update...
