Re: Please help identify these marks.

Thanks for the comments. The blue cobalt glass liner is rather large - diameter is about 20 cm. and the height is about 6 - 7 cm. - , so I don't think for salt, as I have seen in many other similar pics. Theoderich, the pics are very interesting. Any idea who the maker is? Are those letters "GF...

Re: Please help identify these marks - "GF"

I found a crowned fleur-de-lys on the page showing marks from Hanau. But I can't find any hallmark of the letters "GF" in a Star of David, nor the crowned lion passant. Any help is appreciated.

Re: Identify marks on a cream pitcher

I cannot find any other marks on this object. How can I know if the fineness of the silver is 950/1000 or 800/1000?

Re: Identify marks on a cream pitcher

Thanks Joerg for all of the information and time you took to explain. Without doubt the pitcher has only been in Switzerland / between Schaffhausen area and Basel. So any mounting had to be done there. Also, I am 100% sure that nothing has been done to this object for at least 50 years , and probabl...

Re: Identify marks on a cream pitcher

Thank you Blakstone. We greatly appreciate your information. It is wonderful for my wife's family to know that the pitcher was made in Zurich at such an early date. Could you (or someone else) explain why the handle is maybe not original? Is it the shape? Can you make a guess when the handle was pla...

Re: Identify marks on a cream pitcher

Thank you so much. So it seems that the one symbol is actually a " Z" For Zurich and not an " N ". This is very possible because my wife's family is Swiss, even originally from Zurich area. Is there any way of knowing by the style of the pitcher, or the handle, a more precise yea...

Identify marks on a cream pitcher

Can anyone help identify the marks on this pitcher (it seems to be a cream or milk pitcher). It is about 15 cm. in height. Because of my wife's ancestors, we think it must be either German or French (or Swiss?), though they traveled extensively in all of northern Europe from 1830 - 1860. Any help wo...

Please help identify these marks.

Please see the pics of this antique bowl in a silver holder from my wife's Swiss grandmother - though maybe it dates back to the 1800's. Is anyone able to identify these marks for me? I think they are German, but not really sure. Any information, even regarding the blue bowl would be much appreciate...

Re: French makers mark "GG"

Thank you, JayT for all of your information. Your expertise is most appreciated. Thanks for pointing out that the Minerva mark may not be 1838 but could be later. I realize that I looked wrongly at the information and it seems that the mark began to be used in 1838. From what we know in the family, ...

Re: French makers mark "GG"

Thanks again, JayT! Oddly enough, we have 6 silver spoons and 6 silver forks, but from two different makers and two different periods. 5 forks and 5 spoons have only two marks. They were made in 1838, in Paris, and 950/1000 fineness. They were made by Pierre François Quiellé. JayT, you have identi...

French makers mark "GG"

I have a silver soup spoon with three marks: In the middle, The rooster seems to denote that it was made between 1798 and 1809 in Paris, and 950/1000 fineness (according to a website I visited). The symbol on the right seems to be the guaranty with a man's face, with 8 written to the left , and 5 to...

French makers mark "PQ"

I have a silver fork with the silver maker's mark "PQ". I'm not sure what the symbol is between the two letters. The other mark seems to be the symbol denoting 1838, Paris, and 950/1000 fineness - according to a website I visited. Is that correct? I appreciate any help on this. https://www...

Re: French maker "RLD"

Thank you, JayT. It all makes sense and some of the pieces of this puzzle have come together thanks to your explanations. If you are in Basel between mid-April and mid-October the silver jug will be on display at an exhibition at the Spielzeug Museum in the center of the city. The exhibition shows m...

Re: French maker "RLD"

Thank you very much, JayT ! Your information is truly interesting for my family and me. I have now been able to find various articles from Dany Roch-Louis on many websites - often in auctions. It is interesting that an almost identical jug was in an auction several years ago, except it had is standi...

French maker "RLD"

I have a silver teapot, made in Paris, with the symbol for 95% purity both on the lid and to the right of the wooden handle. I know the teapot was made in Paris between 1819 - 1838 . On the bottom is a diamond shaped mark with the initials "RLD". The "R" is by the left corner, th...
