Re: Figure on Gorham Knife

thank you! he seems to be the closest. i looked into other figures from the same period--the beards make it very difficult to distinguish these guys! i found several other similar looking chaps but william cecil had the closest hat style.

Figure on Gorham Knife

here's a c1870 gorham master butter knife. i'm trying to figure out who this man is. his distinctive hat may offer a clue. suggestions i have heard so far include galileo, leonardo, and don quixote. they all bear some resemblance, but i'm not completely convinced of any of them. the knife is marked ...

830S & partial maker’s mark

This is an art nouveau or art nouveau style ebony box with silver and amber decoration. It is marked 830S with a partial maker’s mark that I can’t quite figure out. I guess it is danish, Norwegian, or German. Does anybody recognize it? https://media.publit.io/file/C7CC407A-CF45-4E8D-9921-25CABF2C241...

Re: necklace identification

I'm afraid I can't help with the maker. I have a necklace with the same mark. It is pewter, and to me resembles the type of thing being produced in Norway & Denmark in the 70s.

Hallmarks on a Stuffing Spoon

Hi, I was wondering if anybody could help me ID the marks on this 13" silver stuffing spoon. There are 3 marks, only one of which is clear. The first mark is long and seems to end with a * shape. The second (and clearest) mark is a leaf in an oval. The last mark appears to be initials, ".....

Re: 19C Dutch Mystery Pendant

Hi Peter, Thanks for your reply. I looked very closely and was unable to locate the year letter or standard mark. The only marks on the piece are the two I've shown. Thank you for the great suggestions regarding the Judaic connections. I did think the piece looked religious when I saw it, but it is ...

19C Dutch Mystery Pendant

This recent find is a circa mid-19C silver pendant of cast construction. The front appears to depict a figure wearing a turban and holding something. In the background is what appears to be a palm tree. The design of the front has a rather architectural feel. The back is plain except for engraved le...

Re: Sterling Heart/Key/Rose Pendant

it appears to be a recasting of a Reed & Barton Christmas ornament. the originals were die-struck with a flat backing (hollow inside). from a google search: http://ftmyersgoldbuyer.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Reed-Barton-Key-to-My-Heart-Hollow-Christmas-Ornament-Sterling-Silver-925-FMGE-.jpg

Antique Amer. Sterling Corn Cob What-is-it?

i picked this up today and am lost as to what it is. it is american sterling silver, c. late 19th/early 20th. the mark is S STERLING, which looks similar to Shepard Mfg. Co.'s mark. it is a 3D corn cob shape measuring about 4 3/4" high. there is an aperture at the top and the bottom opens as sh...

Re: Finnish Maker

Hi Trev, Thanks for the suggestion! I am sure it is HK or MK, I have examined it at length under magnification. It was quite hard to photograph. Here is a Photoshop sketch of how the mark looks. The top part of the M is "filled in" as shown. I feel pretty sure mine are c. 1980s-90s. The bl...

Re: The necklace on the definition of designer and period of manufacture.

This is made by Breuning, a good quality German maker. Founded in 1927 by Franz Breuning (they use the FB mark as a tribute to him). The type of sculptural abstract design seen in your piece is typical of their work. I own one of their pieces, pictured below. You can see the similar style. http://i3...

European? Modernist Bracelet Mark

I purchased this bracelet yesterday. It has an abstract design in sterling silver with lapis & coral beads. It is beautifully constructed by hand from individual pieces (I counted over 135 individual pieces soldered together), not cast or stamped. The marks are 925 and something else, it looks l...

German? Bracelet Maker

I purchased this bracelet at a flea market in Berlin. It is handwrought and nicely made. The back is signed with a hand-engraved mark of CR with some kind of symbol (I thought it was a menorah, but it only has 6 stems). Because I purchased it in Germany, I am guessing it is a German piece but it mig...

Finnish Maker

I have two pieces of jewelry by the same Finnish (probably) maker. One is a brooch with a traditional pitsi (lace) design. The other is a sculptural abstract form. I suspect these are c. 1980s or later. Both are marked 925 in a box and a maker's mark that seems to be MK or HK. Because of the texture...

Asian Mark on Modernist Earrings

I have two pairs of handmade sterling earrings c. 1980s. One is marked STERLING with a mark of a superimposed HM or MH. The other is marked similarly with additional marks of © and an Asian (Japanese?) character. I am hoping somebody can identify the Asian mark so I can try to research the maker. Pi...

Bracelet w/Symbols WW2? Silver & metal

This bracelet is made out of some kind of white metal, seemingly a steel or aluminum alloy. It reminds me of WW2 era pieces that were made from airplane fuselage parts but I am not sure. It is decorated on the front with 4 applied symbols in silver, brass, and copper, and a synthetic red stone in a ...

Unknown Greek Maker

Hi,
does anybody recognize the designer mark (maybe starts with a K) or the manufacturer's mark (maybe an N or a Z) on this Greek jewelry set?
Thanks!
