Sugar jar from Poland

I'm posting this because I tried to measure its specific gravity with strange results, until I realized the feet and handle are hollow and thus not testable using specific gravity. Anyway, the marking reminds me of the possibly Italian piece I posted, with both a letter and a number, except that thi...

German reticulated basket

I measured the specific gravity of this, while it was out I figured I would see if anyone can tell me any more about it. At first I thought it was unmarked but I finally found what I believe to be a tiny German mark on it, though no maker is included nor could I find the maker anywhere else on it. B...

Bailey and Co knife

I've run across a lot of coin silver spoons, but this is the first coin silver knife I've found. Marked Bailey and Co., blade is silver too (which surprised me).

Re: Is this Italian?

Thanks for all the input. Unfortunately I couldn't find anything online about Giusto Pastorini. Are there any books that might be useful? Why does there seem to be so little info on Italian made silver? Since there was some question about material, I pulled out my scale and bucket of water and did t...

Re: Is this Italian?

Process of elimination mostly. Mark not consistent with it being from US Canada or Mexico, England or UK, Germany, Russia, or Asian which are the ones I normally run into. And I've read Italy pre 1934 had no national mark and different marks for different parts of Italy so thought it might be that. ...

Is this Italian?

I couldn't find this mark anywhere. Large (14") gilt-bowl ladle, over 200 grams, with a mark and maker I can't ID. Name looks like Pastorini. Has anyone a clue? http://i929.photobucket.com/albums/ad132/4more/P6261121_zpsergeqff5.jpg http://i929.photobucket.com/albums/ad132/4more/P6261120_zpsbys...

Remaining cups

Here are some more cups. I put these together since they are smaller and I assume newer. But if anyone of these are interesting, I can start an individual thread with closeups etc. Just let me know, thanks. http://i929.photobucket.com/albums/ad132/4more/Silver/P3310101_zpsmyonagmp.jpg http://i929.ph...

Didn't know they separated location of marks. These are on the bottom (two views of the same):

Another russian cup with stem

One with a stem this time. Do either of the cups belong with the small plate?

Small plate

About 3-5/8" in diameter (9.2 cm). Same range of questions, name, usage, age, maker, etc. http://i929.photobucket.com/albums/ad132/4more/Silver/P4010107_zpsx11ovj8j.jpg http://i929.photobucket.com/albums/ad132/4more/Silver/P4010109_zpssmr1s6cc.jpg http://i929.photobucket.com/albums/ad132/4more/...

Russian cup

I had time to take some pics so I now have some Russian items to ask for help with. Is there a better name than simply "cup"? What was it used for, when, who, etc. Here's the first cup: http://i929.photobucket.com/albums/ad132/4more/Silver/P3310084_zpsl591nsl3.jpg http://i929.photobucket.c...

I don't have a clue on these marks

I don't have a clue what country these are from, or whether this is silver or not. Not even sure which side of the marks is up, so I apologize if I have them upside down. http://i929.photobucket.com/albums/ad132/4more/Silver/P3310094_zpskjmyi7di.jpg http://i929.photobucket.com/albums/ad132/4more/Sil...

N. Harding mark for Wev

Here's another one whose mark you don't have. First time I've seen a mark on top of another, as opposed to next to it. I wonder if he was a retailer and not a maker? The maker seemed to be * F. & H. * (Farrington and Hunnewell) http://i929.photobucket.com/albums/ad132/4more/Silver/P3200080_zpsdo...

Re: Odd Gorham container...?

Simply check properties for every one elses pictures that are suitable size by looking at Image Info. It looks like most pics are scaled to 786 pixel width. Scaling yours to this or less should work well. So if you need a rule, try 700 - 750 pixels.

Re: Small spoon - even smaller markings

Hi Olga, thanks for your interest. These two pics are the best I could do using my handheld camera. If this still isn't good enough maybe its time for me to get a tripod? http://i929.photobucket.com/albums/ad132/4more/Silver/83445dbf-b78a-48e1-9a97-598284c00931_zpsjcoaotc3.jpg http://i929.photobucke...

Re: Nicely decorated spoon

Hey, thank you for the reply. I think of Towle as a big manufacturing company. Do you think this decoration (which looks hand-done) would have been done at the factory, or done by an engraver on a blank from Towle?

Re: Teapot with wood handle

Ah, thank you for that. I'll rummage through my scrap silver looking for a lonely earring. I do lots of mostly wood furniture repair, but haven't done any silver repair except some bump straightening. But this looks like an easy and low-risk thing to start with.

You say its badly damaged, but I can't see any damage in your picture. What kind of repair does it need?

On the line between coin and sterling

This is a coin silver style spoon, and doesn't have a Sterling mark, so I've put it in this category, though it may better belong in the Sterling category (I won't be offended if it is moved :) Anyway, French & Puffer was a Lowell, MA retailer of silver in the mid to late 1800's. Can anyone iden...
