Hello Tom,

I pretty much assumed that the tray is silverplate because of lack of a hallmark that can identify it as silver. I have seen this same pattern (but not the mark which I've only seen once) on several pieces, and as I recall, I believe that they were all silverplate.

Thanks,

I appreciate your comment draggonflywink. You may be correct, but from the tiny icon of a hallmark shown, it looks like two animals (lions?) standing on hind feet inside a shield under a crown. Maybe it is actually an R. Do you, or anyone out there, have a book of Hallmarks of German Silver with ...

Tom, in your post on Dec 12, you mentioned that you believe the AT&Co hallmark letters on my fork appear to be Gothic but, after some reseach, I believe that the letters on the fork are the upper case Old English font. This could also mean that the fork does not date as early as previously thought ...

If your mark it is indeed one of these four bells as Pat has referenced, looks to me like it is most likely the Smith, Sissons & Co., Sheffield 1848. Note the angular, or pointed, mid-section contour of the bell (like your mark) versus the rounded mid-section contour of the Roberts, Smith & Co ...

What is the possibility that this might be a Newburyport Silver Co. 1905- 1914 mark, only in a shield instead of the retangular box shown? They used the N S Co. mark as well as the N.S.C. mark.

Thanks again Pat, for the additional information. Maybe the maker of this fork wasn't that well known and it being in the mid to late 19th century makes information more scarce. Hopefully something will turn up on it one day.

I re-posted a silver/silverplate tray today that I had posted 16 months ...

Thank you both Pat and Tom. I really appreciate the time you have spent in helping me to identify this mark. At least we're pretty sure it's probably mid to late 19th century, correct? Pat, I don't believe my eagle looks enough like the one of Alfred Field & Company as mine is in a shield not a ...

Help to Identify Unusual Hallmarks on Tray

Thought I'd re-post this after over a year and no clues as to maker, date or origin, to see if anyone out there recognizes this Mfg Mark or has any information about the date or origin. My pictures disappeared in the old post so I am re-posting it with pictures, in hopes that someone will recognize ...

I found the exact marks that are on my fork in the British Hallmarks section under the comparison of British Silverplate Marks to British Sterling Hallmarks (http://www.925-1000.com/platemarks.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). It doesn't show the 1 stamp though. It is the second ...

Thanks for your post, Pat, and for the information you provided. I thought I might be able to determine the origin by the engraved design but that hasn't worked either. I'll look through the website you suggested and see if I can come up with anything. Thanks again!

Question? Is it customary for a silverplate serving piece to be in two sections (such as this one) and then for a "silverplate" handle to be cemented onto the fork? I agree that the fork portion is most likely silverplate, but I'm fairly sure the hollow handle is sterling. Does anyone know of a ...

12-11-06 I've managed to scan a picture of the Mark on the fork handle (pic #2), but don't know if it is clear enough to identify. The numbers following the symbol are 31369, if that has any bearing on anything. I certainly have no idea as to the identification. If anyone knows where this design may ...

Need help to identify maker, origin and date of this fork

Hello everyone... I have been searching for information on this fork for several months and am no closer to identifying it now than I was before I started searching. I would love to know what each mark on the back of the fork stands for. The fork is silver and not gold as it looks in the picture. In ...

Unknown Silver/Silverplate Maker's Mark on Butler's Tray

I am a newbie and am re-posting this in American Silverplate because my pictures were dropped from the first post due to technical problems with the host site. Beautiful old Silver/Silverplate Tray American? Mfg mark

I need your help to identify this Mfg Mark. I don't know if the tray is silver or silverplate. The tray is 21 1/4 X 12 1/2" and weighs 2lb 12oz (1260 Grams) It has 4 Victorian style feet. At one time the tray had handles which were broken off. I have included a picture of the Mfg mark and a picture ...
